Ok, it is not a chalkboard but the menu is written on a board so that they can change it as needed. What it is? Probably the best fish and chips we have had since being in the UK. There is seating inside, rather like a pub, as well as seating outside under an awning. This is no frills great food and good service at a good price. We had simple halibut and chips, It was fast and it arrived piping hot and the chips tasted like chips (not fish) and the fish was tender and juicy and this was on a Tuesday at lunch time! We will go again just for the fish and chips but there are some great, simple choices on the menu that we might eventually try out if we get bored of the fish!

I have eaten at the Pilot House many times for lunch with friends and family during summer visits to our cottage near Gananoque. The PH patio is nice, and the location is excellent (one block west of the Farmers Market). They have a good beer selection, and the chips are excellent. My quibble is with the fried fish. They use a thick batter, and the fish comes with an excessively thick casing of fried batter crust. They use the same beer batter on their fried mushrooms. Some patrons obviously ike this, but it would be great if they were to offer the option of a thinner batter (more like tempura) or pan fried/sauteed fish for those who do not care for thick fried batter.

Comfort food - nothing fancy. Just like a local pub should be. Friendly fast service, excellent freshly prepared fish and chips. Worth a visit if wanting a low key meal.
