I have been there 6 times now with friends and family.
The 1812 Overture was fabulous.
The changing of the guards by cadets and the marching parade was also fabulous.
I enjoyed the guided tour and the tales of ghosts.
Its' a nice way to spend a day with the scenic landscape, walking atop the walls and looking out across the bay. One day we met a young Japanese boy who had come to Canada with his home made period costume to take part in the dancing and marching.

We planned a visit to Fort Henry because it was noted to have been built during the War of 1812. We are Marylanders and during the last two years there have been numerous events to mark the War of 1812 in our state. We were expecting to learn about Fort Henry's role in that conflict. However, in the visitor center we found no mention of the War of 1812. The 1812 fort had been demolished in the 1830's and the present fort built. All of the displays related to that time period and forward. Although interesting, we were disappointed that the purpose of our visit was not satisfied. The fort was interesting and built in a configuration we had not seen before. The staff were pleasant but inconsistent in their ability to answer even the most basic of questions, such as what were the rebellions referred to on a plaque at the entrance. The best part of our visit was the wonderful lunch we ate on the patio overlooking the St. Lawrence.

It is 38 years since my last visit!!! So much has changed. What has not changed is the precision drill of the guard and most of the military displays. The museum also now has very interesting and well laid out display galleries depicting life at the fort in the mid to late 1800's. There is also what looks to be a very good bistro, which I did not visit, and a very good cafe which I did.

The tour was great - we were able to catch it in french which was great for my family - I was able to get the discount military price for the entire family so it was worth it - otherwise it would have been a big expensive. The tour was well done and the guide was excellent. Nearby, there was another tour participant with the english tour who was chatting loudly in arabic on her cell phone, with their numerous children running around and screaming which really damped our experience - it seems the guides for both the french and english tour did not seem to realize this but other than that, it was nice and i would recommend it for anyone visiting Kingston.
