“Interesting house”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

We were the first to arrive and were welcomed in by a nice young guide. She explained the layout and told us the fee. A decent fee compared to some others. She then directed us to the media room where a great video gave a history of Sir John A, his family and Bellevue House. After watching the video, the nice young guide came in and walked us through the exhibit room and re-explained quite a bit of what the video just told us. I think she was just keen on her job. Then we were directed to go out and down the street to the actual house. What a house! We pulled the doorbell and the costumed guide let us in and explained a bit about the house and she let us wander but would answer any questions we had. Well done! After the house tour, we walked down to the kitchen garden where the gardener walked 2 paces behind us all the way through the garden. Perhaps he was afraid we would snitch a tomato, so watched us like a hawk. It was the only downside to the welcoming feeling everyone else gave.

All in all, it was a great visit - just need the gardener to relax a bit.

“Excellent”

The actors that transforms themselves into Sir John A MacDonald/wife, etc are exceptional. They did a wonderful job. We went there to visit the Bellevue house and a play was going to happen so we stayed for it and afterwards we had tea. It was fantastic.

This was a very nice way to learn some of Canada's history. The people working in the House are lovely, from the admissions to the gardner.
