I really enjoyed this and found it interesting. However, I feel they could do so much more with it and make more exhibits and open up a lot more of the buildings for you to explore, such as the hospital wing. Our tour guide seemed really defensive when someone asked him a question while in the tour too. Not sure why!?

This museum has so much to see and take in even though it's small. You really should see it before or after visiting the Kingston Pen tour. Admission is a donation if you choose too.
Friendly and informative staff. Right across the street from the Kingston Pen.

After visiting the penitentiary the museum had a lot more behind the scenes. They have on display actual contrabands and other weapons found by inmates, lots of guided tours, and an gift shop. Awesome experience!

With the newest attraction of visiting the actual Penitentiary, follow it up with a visit here. Learn about the history of Kingston, inmates, how they lived, Kingston history and more. Give yourself about an hour to hour an half.

Great museum, free of charge. We visited prior to our tour of the Kingston Pen which was helpful to give us context for the tour. Make sure you visit the room with the cell size examples since you won't see what the original sized cell looked like when you go on the Pen tour (they don't have an example at the prison because the cells were renovated at some point).

What I liked about this museum is that many of the volunteers are people who used to work at the prison so they provide lots of stories and information.

The museum is used to be the home of one of the wardens.

Great museum, thank you!
