“weekend stay”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

the property is in need of a little repair which i understand will be taking place soon. Having breakfast at 9.30am was a little late for most of us but if coffee would have been available earlier that would have taken the edge off. Location good within walking distance to down town, our room unfortunetly didn't have a TV, which would have been nice considering some of the sporting events that were on late and would have been great to watch.

Thank you for taking time to share your views. Yes indeed we were getting ready to do a major repair on the living room and one bedroom. We are always making improvements ... This year we added a Dry Sauna in the Spa, did a living room makeover and redecorated one bedroom. Four rooms had new linens and pictures. We have just three rooms with TV's. Just ask on a return visit. Two of the TVs are small screens and the Edwards Suite has a large screen TV. The Inn has never been a TV place - but I understand during playoffs and some series games that it can be a little upsetting to be without a TV. We hope our guests are out enjoying all the wonderful sites and dining in Kingston. There are quite a few pubs that have TV's and we are happy to recommend them . If early coffee was missing , my apologies. The Chef is to have a fresh French Press Coffee brewed for the early morning coffee people. It is usually in the living room between 7 and 8am depending on breakfast seatings. We like it to be fresh when guests arrive but know that many guests will sleep in a little later while here. If you wish an earlier breakfast next time , just ask. We are happy to accommodate whenever possible. I do hope we will see you again. and in spite of the shortcomings you felt on your visit , thank you for a good rating. Next time we will aim for a 5 star visit!!

I have stayed at this B & B twice over the past years and enjoyed each visit. A grand stone house with all of the modern conveniences. The room I enjoyed was clean and equiped with fireplace and soaker tub. The living room is welcoming and is the heart of the house where time can be spent looking out the grand windows and enjoying quiet conversations with other guests. The gardens are gorgeous in the summer and the fireplaces a real treat for winter stays. The staff is friendly and willing to accomodate in any way they can. Dietary restrictions are gladly accomodated.

Room Tip: Each room has its own charm from garden views to soaker tubs to fireplaces.

It is always a pleasure to hear from guests. I love the fact that each room is unique - so many return guests have 'their' favourite. Some are trying all the rooms, a different one each time. I love the Tower in the winter - sitting up in the little third floor lookout and in the summer the private balcony is a great place to enjoy a refreshing glass of your favourite beverage. Have you ever listened to the Haunted Walk Stories from the front porch? Thank you for taking time to share your Rosemount experience. Hope to see you again soon!

I had a lovely weekend staying at the Rosemount Inn this past weekend visiting my daughter at Queen's. She stayed with me and we both enjoyed our room, the amenities, the wonderful breakfast and Holly's and her team's kind hospitality. The house is beautiful with a very interesting history, the location great and close to many things in Kingston. We look forward to our next visit and also trying a few spa treatments! And guests that we met over breakfast, who were visiting their daughter at Queen's from Calgary, said that they had tried other B&Bs and keep coming back to the Rosemount as they feel it is the best!

I have stayed at this B ad B many times over the past twenty years. Each visit, we have been met with the same high quality care and service as the previous time! The setting is lovely and the beds are so comfortable it is hard to get up for the lovely breakfast we have always been served! We enjoy the communal breakfast setting, meeting interesting people from all over Canada and the world, and even people who know people we know!

I recommend Rosemount without hesitation to my family and friends!

So nice to hear from you! Thank you for taking time to post your comments. Trip Advisor is one of the best ways for travellers to find the place that suits their style of travel best and what better way than to hear from a returning guest. We are thrilled whenever a guest calls to ask to book again. Many of our guests like you have been staying at the inn for over 20 years!! Time flies!! Guests are like family! It is so much fun when guests get together around the breakfast table and I hear them say... 'didn't we meet last time?" many have a standing reservation for the same weekend each year or each season - and now plan to meet with other guests for dinner. See you again soon!

We're not happy until you are not happy should be this place's motto. No flexibility in their routine even when the entire place was booked with people all on the same event schedule. Breakfast was at 8 or 8:30 a.m. despite our entire group which occupied every room in the B&B being on a schedule whereby breakfast at 7 or 7:30 a.m would accomodate the functions that brought us to Kingston, but no - the time for breakfast could NOT be altered! These are the rules, and no we don't have the Globe & Mail at the B&B until we pick it up at the store AFTER breakfast, ( unlike the B&B down the street where the Globe &Mail was ready available for any early rising patron ) The owner and staff of this place managed to take the Breakfast out of B&B and was well on the way to making patrons question how much they really wanted the Bed, given the prison camp rules at the Rosemount!

Wow! Sounds like we were not a good fit on this one. So sorry that you were unhappy with your stay. We do our very best to work breakfast times with our guests and sometimes with special events the timing is difficult. Even many big hotels do not do a full breakfast before 7:30. Not sure how you missed the Globe and Mail - and our local Whig Standard newspapers. They are delivered every morning and are placed in the living room along with the early morning coffee. The Rosemount Chef always has coffee brewed and out to the living room early. For a really early guest there is always the kettle and tea and coffee on the marble counter in the living room as well. Perhaps you missed that. When you checked out of the Rosemount Inn you were given a wonderful guide from www.OntariosFinestInns.com . I hope you will use it as a great way to find other inns that perhaps will be more to your liking - as we are all unique different in our own ways.

Rosemount Inn is a delightful, charming B&B, well-located in Kingston Town Centre. The decor is traditional and tasteful. The breakfast, as others have commented, is outstanding. Our daughter, a Queens student, stayed with us in the Edward Suit, which is very spacious, allowing us to relax and chat in the comforts of our own home. As far as B&Bs go, the Rosemount is more pricy than I believe is warranted. The additional fee of 50$ per extra guest in a room that is already priced above the standard 2-person bedroom is, IMHO, unreasonable. We have stayed at the Frontenac down the street which did not charge us for an extra person when we rented their large room. Despite this we had a wonderful weekend and were very well taken care of by the staff.

Thank you for your thoughts and helpful comments on your stay. The two level chalet style Edwards Suite is a very special hideaway. It is one of the first booked at the inn. Many guests use it for sharing by booking the adjoining Studio as well. The rates for the Coach House have not changed more than $25 in over ten years. A reasonable amount wouldn't you agree? For other rooms that can accommodate three the Macdonald Room and The Anne Earl room each have a queen and a single bed and are a lesser rate than the Edwards Suite.. I am glad you enjoyed your breakfast and hopefully you were able to partake in the complimentary afternoon tea and the homemade cookies too. Please be sure to ask about other rooms as we would love to have you return.

This B&B was just great on so many levels. The house itself and room had character and were very comfortable. Walking distance to much of downtown. Hotel staff were very friendly, helpful and accomodating. The food was absolutely excellent...... a cut above the fare you get at most B&B's.
