“Historic inn with decent accommodations”
Reviewed November 16, 2013

The Hochelaga Inn is steeped in history and is perfectly situated whether you're in Kingston on business, as a tourist or visiting Queen's University. We enjoyed our stay and we're impressed with the friendly and attentive service. Our room was also quite comfortable but on the smaller side (we did go for a less expensive room). The breakfast was good but not spectacular - the frittata was overcooked and the bread closer to stale than fresh. Also, if you're looking for a smaller, romantic B&B this is not the place. With 20+ rooms it feels more like a small hotel and looks a little tired. For the prices that are being charged a few updates are in order.

Good Morning:
Thank you for taking the time to review the Inn and rating us a 4 STAR.

We noticed you have reviewed nearly 500 different locations. Are you a professional reviewer or do you own an Inn?
We are proud to say that the Hochelaga INN is the largest in Kingston since it was converted in1985. Ron & I purchased the Inn about 10 years ago , where we live and work . It is definetly not a small country B&B and thats why it is called an INN . Lots of weddings and special occassions in the past because we are a perfect venue for smaller gatherings.

Breakfast is made fresh everyday. Fresh fruit & yogurt served (gluten free foods available)
daily baked croissants, eggs, cheese & coldcuts and sometimes an extra hot dish , although we advertise a light buffet breakfast it seems to be growing everday ! Lots of fun trying to decide if I should make pancakes, or omelets or breadpudding or stuffed french apple toast.
Happy you were comfortable
Regards
Anne & Ron

Jill and I love the beautiful and charming heart of historic Kingston. Hochelaga Inn is part of that. It is situated on a lovely historic street in the heart of Kingston, close to a large park. There was an English classic car show in the park one day we were there.

We were warmly greeted by the owner when we arrived. The room was charming. The common areas were relaxing, comfortable and roomy. The history of the place was well preserved. The breakfast buffet had a great presentation, variety and taste. We are vegetarian and wheat free, and were able to work out these arrangements with ease.

The house is truly beautiful!!

We are returning Mid November.

We have a history with the Hochelaga Inn. My husband and I met in Kingston 26 years ago and we were engaged at the Hochelaga Inn in 1989. We went back for our tenth anniversary and we just went again for our 23rd anniversary. It happened to be my husband's 25th reunion weekend from Queens as well. Almost the whole Inn was rented to classmates. We felt like we owned this mansion. We had cocktails before we went out in the evening and then stayed up and visited in the living room until 2 in the morning. Our room was beautiful , Room 101. It had a lovely King Bed and a bathtub. I highly recommend treating yourself to one or two nights at the charming Hochelaga Inn.

Whilst on holiday in Canada from Scotland my Brother n Sister-in-law took both myself and my husband to stay at this charming and very quaint 'Inn'. It is a regular stop for them when visiting Kingston. They said they hoped we would enjoy our stay as much as them - WELL - no we did not enjoy our stay - we ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. The room was amazing, the staff super friendly and informative and then to top that they serve an amazing breakfast with a smile and a chat. If and when I ever get back to Kingston I hope there is a room available at this wonderful place. Sits so so charming its a MUST!!!!!!

Hello Scotland:
Thank you very very much. It was a pleasure having you stay with us!

To all our wonderful guests , I have been negligent in responding to all of the wonderful thoughts you have expressed in your reviews. Thankfully this summer has been an extremely busy one for us (no excuse) and honestly I just have not been able to get back to you when I should have.

We appreciate all of you !!

Warmest Regards
Anne & Ron and staff

Had a very haunted stay... if your looking for ghosts dont forget your camera to snap photos around this beautiful Inn. Comfortable, cozy and relaxing ( besides the ghosts) this is my new fav spot to stay in the heart of Kingston...

Stayed two nights in the Carriage House at the Hochelaga Inn. It's a great property on a quiet tree lined street, close to downtown and the University. Sat ouside one evening on the beautiful covered porch and watched a thunderstorm roll in. The room had ample space and was very clean & comfortable. Turned off the a/c and opened the windows to let fresh evening breezes blow in. The Owners and Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! Loved being able to park the car and walk to Kingston's main attractions. Breakfasts were much more than expected and we really enjoyed sitting in the sun room to eat. The Inn is part of the "Haunted Tour", what fun hearing the stories and talking to the night auditor about his experiences! We'd love to stay here again and highly recommend the Hochelaga to anyone vacationing in Kingston!

We recently stayed for two nights whilst visiting the area. The hosts were welcoming and helpful. The house is close to the town for shopping and sightseeing, so therefore we didn't use our car during our visit.

Very quirky house, with our room being adequate to our needs.... House in need of redecoration. Buffett breakfast was acceptable .
