“Excellent Stay”

We stayed here for our anniversary and we very pleased with the quaint, historic setting. This place had outstanding accomdations. Our room was huge, it was two rooms with two bathrooms. The service was top notch and very friendly. It was a quick 10 min or less walk to information center. We would stay here again.

We just stayed one night this past weekend. The front desk staff when we arrived was lovely; when we asked where we could get a coffee near by she made 2 to go for us. We had no issues checking in. The room was fine. I agree with other posters that there is a lot of charm to the property but that there are some aspects that are getting worn (the shabby part of the shabby chic where there was quite a range of furnishings from antique to junk shop it seemed). We stayed in room 307, which was laid out very well. We were happy with to have a mini-fridge in the room also. A bit challenging with the AC as it was in the sitting area and so the cold air couldn't really make its way into the bedroom. It was freezing in the sitting room and bathroom but too warm while sleeping. Not much to be done about that; however, as the windows in the bedroom were *very* old and couldn't hold a widow unit. But if you like to sleep cold this may not be the room for you. Our only real negatives were that the king sheet wasn't fitted to the bed well so all night it pulled from being tucked in and the mattress laid bare. Also the most worrisome was that the front desk staff wasn't there in the morning (the housekeeping staff was very apologetic) and we were actually concerned. We had to leave early (had been told we could have breakfast before) and delayed until we couldn't wait any longer but it meant leaving without breakfast or properly checking out. So we didn't even know what our final bill would be. The lack of staff on the property (at least we assume no staff are there overnight?) may not suit everyone and that, combined with the decor made it feel a little like we were staying in a fancy hostel rather than a $200/night hotel.

Room Tip: There are no elevators so if you have trouble with stairs ask for a low floor.

Great hospitality, delicious breakfasts served on the patio in the morning, cute and comfortable rooms! I've gone here 3 times, none of them have disappointed! I would recommend it to everybody! (Obviously since I've been there 3 times!)

We stayed at this charming hotel on May 30 and 31, 2014. Our room was simply but tastefully furnished in antiques, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was austere, but clean. We enjoyed a light breakfast each morning of english muffins, cheese, fruit, juice and excellent coffee. The service was very good. The hotel is an easy walk from the downtown/waterfront area. If I were going to change anything, I would like to have had room darkening curtains. No complaints about the sun, especially after this past winter(!), but it was very light in our room by 5:00 a.m. I would also have enjoyed some quiet music in the parlour during breakfast. The silence was awkward when there were others about, as you couldn't help but hear their conversations, and feel that you were being overhead. A little background music would have alleviated that discomfort considerably. All in all, it was a lovely stay and I wouldn't hesitate to return to this hotel.

If you are visiting Kingston to explore the past and present of the city, this is a great place to stay. Very central location, easy walk to downtown restaurants and waterfront. This historic hotel feels every bit part of Kingston's rich past. No elevator so third floor rooms could be difficult for some but helpful staff will no doubt help with the luggage. Our room was a nice size, not big but well laid out and very comfortable and quiet...opening bay window are a plus for those who enjoy fresh air and hearing birds chirp in the garden outside. The en suite bathroom had original charm and well maintained. Breakfast is light as advertised, and very simple, but enough to get you going and nice to take in the front parlour. Plenty of places in Kingston to enjoy mid morning snack if you are used to eating more in the morning.

The staff delivered gentle, attentive service and the interior design was charming, with some quirky twists; the staircase in our room led to a mezzanine closet that had the allure of a little hideaway. I felt I was on a European vacation rather than an overnight trip to visit our son at Queen's. The furniture in the parlor is lovely, and I so enjoyed reading recent issues of The New Yorker, neatly stacked in reverse chronological order (perhaps by happenstance, but a detail not lost on me). The next time I stay at the Hotel Belvedere, I will ask about temperature control, as the only small glitch in an otherwise fabulous stay was a bit too much heat in our room.

Room Tip: The front desk staff will make you coffee or tea in the evening.

A hotel since 1900, the Belevedere does accommodation flawlessly. Light breakfast served by the fire in the parlor, with a smile. Warm and comfortable beds. Kind staff. Immaculate housekeeping. Everything seems easy here.

In addition to confirming others' observations (no elevator, great location), I can report a strong wireless signal and thick walls. After a peaceful night's rest, I was surprised at breakfast just how many people were staying at the hotel!

The "shabby" part of the chic is that elements of our room (302) were run-down to the point of seeming like "projects to do." Enameling on the kitchen sink (which seemed original to the hotel) was peeling off. Plastering in the bathroom awaited a coat of paint. In the context of this magnificent Victorian setting, with all the charms of antiques and history, these aspects added character. However, they would have annoyed me if my company had not been paying! Hopefully other rooms are more perfect.

If this is your honeymoon or if the price seems indulgent ... Stay at the Belvedere by all means. But call ahead to ensure your room is in pristine condition. The rest of the hotel certainly is.

We will stay at this lovely, romantic spot next time we visit Kingston.

Thank you very much for your nice comments and for taking the time to review the Belvedere. It was my mistake that you were put in a room with a bathroom that our desk staff thought had been completely painted. All is well now and if you do get a chance to reserve again, please mention that Ian would like to know that you are returning.
