“A Comfotable Stay”
Reviewed August 26, 2008

My family and I visited Kingston for a family reunion the week of August eighth through the fifteenth. We reserverd four rooms. Each room was spacious and well made. The hotel was clean and the staff very personable.

We stayed in the northern tower which we were informed had been recently remodled and a/c placed in each room. The tower is the same tower the pool / water park are in.

The hotel had a restaurant that we used twice. The first time our food was ok and service was fine. The second time the food was less then good and the service extremely slow. As a result we did not go back.

The kids enjoyed the water slides and pool which were clean and well supervised.

Though the hotel was a little outside town, a fifteen minute drive down the main drag to the waterfront and downtown, we found the hotel to be centralized for our purposes, clean, well managed, and a comfortable escape.

  • Liked — The pool and waterslide made for a great escape for the children
  • Disliked — The restaurant

The Ambassador Hotel is Kingston's largest hotel at about 210 rooms. It is on the outskirts of town on one of the main roads into the downtown area.

When I booked the hotel my impressions from the website were good and I believed I was booking a real upmarket place. It was certainly more expensive than hotels I had booked in much larger cities such as Ottawa and Toronto.

First impressions are good when you enter the lobby. The staff are very well presented, well spoken and very helpful. The standard of decor here and in the restarurant are very good.

Our room was in the 'tower' building which is attached to the hotel's waterpark. The first impressions of the decor in this building were quite poor and when we arrived in our room we were even more disappointed.

Our room was very old fashioned looking with turquoise walls and carpet and our window was a frosted glass window that looked out onto an indoor courtyard behind. The was a stale smell in the room and not being able to open a window to the outside didn't help. There was a dripping tap in the bathroom and the bin hadn't been empied.

The room was large but the decor and smell were very off-putting. We stayed in that room for one night as the hotel were completely booked but were moved to another room the following day for the remaining two days of our stay. This room smelt fine and had a window to the outside. Unfortunately it still didn't open.

These turquoise coloured rooms are refered to on the website as "Traditional" rooms and in all cases the windows do not open. Rooms containing twin Queens and a fold out bed are available as well as rooms with giant whirlpool baths.

The refurbished rooms are of a much higher standard but these do not offer the option of a sofa bed or fold out bed to add to the two Queens. Refurbished rooms do have windows that open.

Complimentary parking is provided at the side and front of the hotel and I can't imagine they would ever run out of spaces.

Complimentary wireless Internet is available throughout the hotel.

The hotel has a small waterpark that consists of a decent size pool, two hut tubs, sauna, steam room and a large waterslide. The lifeguards at the pool are very friendly and helpful and there are items like googles for sale at very reasonable prices.

We didn't eat at the hotel so cannot offer any information on quality and quantity.

The first room we stayed in did very much put us off. I would imagine anyone staying in the newer refurbished rooms in the main building would have a very different review to offer.

I would definately look elsewhere first on any future visit to Kingston. If I found nothing better then I would have to go with a refurbished room and roate one family member sleeping in the car.

  • Liked — The service was of a very high standard
  • Disliked — The first room was a major let down and the subsequent room only OK

We went to this hotel for our thirtieth wedding anniversary. The service at both the hotel and their dining room was excellent. When we arrived we were greeted by the nicest gentleman who got us our key. We also received a nice letter from the hotel congratulating us on our anniversary.
The waitresses in the dining room were very friendly and were excellent with their service. The young man making the omlettes was very friendly and made great omlettes. What a treat.
We also noticed how well trained the maids were for the rooms. One was waiting for the elevator when we arrived to also go down, she quickly moved out of our way so we could go and she waited for the next one. The superb staff made us feel very important and welcome in this wonderful resort.
We highly recommend this place. The pool is great, the Gym was well equipped and the hot tub in our bedroom was very relaxing. We found everything clean and everyone friendly.

We escape to Kingston on a visit once a year. We returned to the Ambassador this year after being contacted directly by the Manager after writing about a few disappointments on the guest comment card. We were impressed that he was dealing with matters directly. This year our stay was well above average. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is good. And Kingston is a fun place to visit and shop. My only complaint is that there are far too many kids in the pool area.

  • Liked — The big beds
  • Disliked — The noisy pool area

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, on behalf of AMO+ (our local chapter) and AMO International, for all that your staff did for us. Whenever there was a request for service (i.e., opening up rooms, supplying water and ice, photocopying, etc.), the staff were always there promptly with exactly what was requested. We talked to a number of our members and no one had any complaints. If there were any that we hadn't heard about, they must have been so minor as to not be forwarded to us. Your hospitality and services were, in large part, what made our Meet a success. Thank you so much.

Stayed at The Ambassador during long weekend in May.
Fabulous Family Hotel with such cozy Lobby and Lounge and Bar attached you can feel like you are at home.
Very, very friendly staff.
Enjoyed a lot the biggest water indoor facility with big waterslide.
And food, mouth watering.
would recommend to everyone traveling to Kingston.

We had a great stay at the ambassador!! It started off with a warm welcome from the front desk staff (very quick and friendly). The food was great, very reasonably priced, and the service was excellent...
exactly what we want!!

The hotel has recently been refurbished and looks great...our room was beautiful and the pool area is like no other--a water slide, pool, splash pad, steam room, hot tubs, sauna---we didn't have to leave the hotel to have a great time!!

What gave our stay that little something extra was the staff----so incredibly accommodating!!

Highly recommend the Ambassador!
