Friends of ours arrived from out of town for a one week visit. Knowing that it is almost impossible to get to see everyone you need to in such a short visit, a get together was arranged to meet with several people at the MANDARIN on Upper James Street in Hamilton, Ontario.
Since this is a buffet venue, it is especially easy to set up separate tabs for all concerned. You are given a number per bill and it just goes from there. Service is wonderful, always quietly there, but leaves you do your socializing without interruption. At your own leisure, you may get up and choose from a magnificent array of edible delights, from soups, salads, to wonderful Canadian choices and the best of Chinese foods available in this area. The buffet tables are huge and there are four of them, always filled up with fresh delights. When you are stuffed to the gills, you must now choose any number of exquisite desserts. Your waiter will then come around and offer a number of teas, coffees, or liqueurs.
Prices are reasonable per person for these wondrous delights and if you are lucky enough to be over 65, there is a great discount.
There is no hesitation from this gal to recommend and actually push people out to this venue for a bite to eat. Be prepared, though, it is busy, but set up nicely with sounds that aren't overwhelming.
If there is a critique to be had, I would suggest it could be that if a party of 25 is seated, it has to be in a long row with tables put together. For people that haven't seen one another for several years, wouldn't it be grand if there was room to put these tables in a way that we can all see and talk with one another!! We can wish, can't we?
