Awful food experience at The Black Forest. Hadn't been in many years, thought we would give it a go since it seems to be an institution in the city of Hamilton. What a mistake. Yes, it was nostalgic with the many Hansel and Gretel touches. My pork cutlet was dry, tough and tasteless except for the awful packaged tasting sauce that it was floating in. Amongst the sauce was also an awful lot of cooking oil puddled on the plate. The vegetables I doubt had any nutrients left in them, they looked grey and were soooo over cooked, I was embarrassed for them to serve such a hideous meal. My friends meal was equally as dry and disappointing as mine. Go somewhere else.

Black Forest has THE best food I have every had in my life. They serve German and Austrian cuisine and the waitresses are dressed up in real German outfits, such a great atmosphere. Very reasonable prices (about $15 CAD per person) and the portion of food are very generous. I have been coming to this place for many years and have always enjoyed it. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t already. My favorite dishes there are the Schnitzel Burger if you are looking for a lighter meal of the Black Forest Plate if you are really hungry. MMM, I wish I were eating the Black Forest right now :D

I have been going to the Black forest for years with my grandparents every Sunday after church. I being in my early 20’s. We always get good service. The last time I went I took a friend of mine there, he too is around my age... the service was horrible... they treated us like “kids”. I got the impression they thought we didn’t have the money to eat there on our own, or at least to leave a tip? We sat down, the waitress never bothered to take drink orders until 20 minutes later. Then the waitress came out once more to bring the meal and hour after being seated (which was the wrong one) and our long awaited drinks. I couldn’t help but notice, all the other tables we receiving regular service. She didn’t apologise when i told her that it wasn’t what we ordered. When I asked how long the correct meal would be to get out to the table, she couldn’t answer me. I spoke to the Manager, who on a Sunday is more then obliging to customers. She didn’t apologise for the service, rather she asked us if we were still interested in receiving our order??!!! Appalled by this we said no forget it, we will go elsewhere. She made us pay for our drinks and told us to come back soon. RUDE! NOT LIKELY

As a lover of German cuisine, I often seek out German restaurants in cities I visit. The Black Forest Inn is one of the nicest I have seen in quite some time. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit gritty, but parking is close and convenient. Everything from appetizers to dessert and coffee is excellent. Bratwurst, schnitzel, potatoes, all well-prepared. Service was attentive, prices were affordable, making this an outstanding value.

Really tasty, with big portion sizes too so bring your appetite. They even sell German newspapers!
