We went during Westfield's maple syrup special event. Most of the heritage buildings were open and staffed by friendly and knowledgable volunteers who provided excellent historical interpretation. The printing house and the barn were my particular favourites. The sugar shack was open (with maple syrup samples!) as well as fluffy pancakes & succulent ham available for purchase.

Definitely worth visiting - it is a lot of fun for both adults and children alike!

Every year we try to visit this charming outdoor museum.
This time we had 2 grand children in tow during the maple syrup festival.
What makes this place stand out is the fact it is run by enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy what they are doing. It gives the place a friendly atmosphere that is second to none.
Because it is run by volunteers, it is only open during the summer weekends and with special occations.
If you go with small children, the horse and wagon ride may well be the highlight for them as the history of the buildings is more for adults, some of the demonstrations they can give a try themselves to raise their enthusiasm.
The pancakes with maple syrup were also a hit, and based on what they ate, we could not have done better at home.
And if you are on a budget, you can add a star as it is hard to find better value.

A great place for family's or people who enjoy learning about our history. Lots to see. Different buildings to go through and my personal favorite is the blacksmith shop.

Good place to take the kids. Lots of education here for young and old. The spring maple syrup festival is great.

We love to visit Westfield and go several times a year, although I think my favourite season is Christmas when everything is decorated and Father Christmas can be spotted wandering through the village. What we love about the place is that it is truly like going back in time to a small town Ontario community. The whole atmosphere of the village is one of friendly community spirit and it is a joy to witness history re-enacted by those who clearly enjoy making the stories come alive. The attention to detail is fantastic, and there are ongoing events that appeal to any age group. Our most recent visit was on Family Day. We went as a group of 5 adults and 2 children and all of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. What was particularly touching to me was to see how many people were volunteering as families or extended families. We especially loved touring one house where a grandmother was volunteering along with two of her granddaughters! What a wonderful heritage that is being passed along in that family! All of the volunteers should be congratulated for making this place such a success.
