I travel a lot and need an 'oasis' at the end of a busy day. I got it here! From William at the front desk, terry running Baccis (fantastic italian cuisine btw!!!) and Miriam who was there when i had breakfast at 6:30 am and gave me a glass of wine at 7 pm! Wow.

Room Tip: see if you can stay for two nights, you get a nice discount on the rate if it is on special!

Wow, where do i start. From Stevens assistance and knowledge of the area while booking to the most attentive staff and service I have found in many years, this is the only Hotel i will ever book in the area again. William at the front desk is a real Gem. His pleasant nature, attention to details and sense of humor was always welcoming after a long day. I saw him go above and beyond many many times for guests and myself. The location is perfect. I found it very easy to be in downtown in 7 minutes, Stoney Creek in 5 and Burlington in 7, Great location with easy acess to the link, Red hill exp and QEW. On site workout room and warm pool with Jacuzzi was delightful and private. I was in the Ferrari suite, very nice decor and immaculate housekeeping staff. The rain shower was a bonus as well as the treats. Having a washer and dryer was a nice surprise being there for 2 weeks.Need a limo?, Sams 'your guy and what a genuine person. Make sure you try thier restraunt, breakfast was lovely with really good variety and price. Dinner on the other hand was amazing, thier signature lasagna was devoured by many and the veal was perfect!
I look forward to returning to Hamiltons best kept secret until now......

We recently flew up to Hamilton watch some golf at the 2012 Canadian Open and play some ourselves. Using recent reviews on Trip Advisor we chose the comparatively new Best Western C hotel which apparently is a new brand of boutiques hotels that Best Western plans to launch worldwide. It turned out to be a good choice and not just because we got an extremely good rate for a four day stay.

On the afternoon we flew up a small area of Hamilton suffered record breaking rainfall in a very short period of time, including as we found out, our hotel. Arriving three hours later because of being diverted to London (Ontario) to wait out the storm we found the lobby covered in towels and the staff cheerily cleaning up what had been an inch of rain that had seeped in through the glass windows that form the wall of the entranceway. Taking into account that our flight had been very rough and that the restaurant where we were counting on for a nice meal had just closed, this looked like a real bummer of a start to our trip. Not so.

The staff were so unabashed by the events of the day and so friendly that we immediately felt bad for them having to put in so much extra work getting the place mopped up and presentable ( and it should be noted there was no carpet in the lobby so no lingering mustiness). Noting that the restaurant was now closed the reception staff pointed to a cooler with prepared lasagne from the restaurant that could be heated in our room and, wonder of wonders, wine for sale to go with it. We had a delicious meal with red wine on the go within minutes of checking in.

Each of the rooms at C has a name based on an Italian theme. On Floor 5 each room is named for someone in the movie business, on Floor 4 the entertainment business and Floor 3 – others, while on Floor 2 the rooms are named for Italian provinces and cities. We were in the Lombardi suite which was somewhat ironic for Vikings fans, but we didn’t mind Vince’s triumphant grin staring at us, at least not too much.

The room was a perfect square with very good utilization of space. Included were an in-room sparkling clean Jacuzzi and a fireplace, both of which were not needed in the dog days of summer, but would be welcome in winter. All of the necessary modern electronics such as 42 inch TV, Wifi and DSL connection were available and worked without problems. The king bed had a great mattress and even better pillows. The pool area and hot tub look very inviting and there is a roof top patio from which you can see Lake Ontario.

Lest one thinks we are shills for this hotel, there were a few small, but annoying things that detracted from our stay, some of which could be easily corrected. Firstly, the shower stall has no place to put soap, shampoo etc. so it must be put on the floor – no fun. Secondly, despite having a microwave there is no cutlery or crockery. Staff was good enough to raid the restaurant the first night we were there to get some, but this is a serious oversight. Lastly, and this is a complaint about just about every hotel – is it not possible in this day and age to get air conditioning that does not turn itself off just a the desired temperature is reached and then blast into a whirlwind of sound as the temperature inevitably rises again, waking the attempted sleeper time and again.

A few closing comments – you need a car to stay here. It is conveniently located if your interest is in the many things to see and do on the top side of the Niagara escarpment and it is closer to the airport than downtown. However, if you really, really have to stay in downtown Hamilton and we feel sorry if you do, this is not the place.

Also we would be remiss in not mentioning Gramma Willie’s which appeared hidden among the usual chains that clog the back of every hotel Guest Directory. It was an old-fashioned diner not far from the hotel that served good food at really good prices. The egg burger with bacon was excellent as was the cup of joe that came with it, all for $4.75. Inexplicably the next day we were drawn by the siren call of the Tim’s across the street from Gramma Willie’s and were treated to having four out of our five order choices delivered incorrectly. As I munched on something I hadn’t ordered and didn’t like and sipped on my coffee with unrequested sugar I looked over to Gramma’s and felt like saying “Doh”.

Room Tip: Ask for a room themed on your favourite Italian

Thank you very much for your kind and detailed review maritimeexplorer,

We are delighted you had chosen to stay at Ontario's 1st Best Western Premier and Hamilton's first luxury boutique hotel.

We surely appreciate your undertstanding during our unusual record breaking rainfall in a very short period of time as mentioned. Thank you for your kind review of the steps taken by our team to minimise any inconvenience.

We are also happy to read that the staff were able to offer you our homemade Lasagna served out of our Sundries, accompanied by a Tintern Ridge Red Wine after our restaurant had closed.

Your eye for detail is greatly appreciated regarding our room types and floors. Truly showing our efforts are recognised and appreciated. Your kind review helps us to continue our means of offering an experience rather than a simple hotel stay.

We will surely look into the issues you did have regarding our shower and cutlery options.

We hope you enjoyed your time at the RBC Canadian Open.

Warmest of Regards,

Joe Mercanti,
President

The hotel overall is very clean and the staff are friendly. I want to thank Linda, the General Manager, personally and all her staff for their generosity and kindness during my stay. I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends. Just a piece of advice .... pls. call the hotel's location itself when booking your reservation.

Room Tip: Get a family a suite with 2 rooms.

We were at a wedding and visiting family for a week. The bedrooms and bathrooms were well equipped and the bathroom had a free standing magnifying mirror( very good for ladies make-up and for men shaving) as you cannot always get close enough to the main mirrors. The plentiful towels were white and of a good quality and changed every day. Good large shower head. Beds extremely comfortable with quality white bedding. Breakfast served in the Bacci restuarant was good value and there was a choice of hot and cold food. The hotel staff were very welcoming and really did go the extra mile to make our stay as comfortable as possible especially Linda in house keeping. If you are looking for a hotel at a reasonable price that is new and contempory I would not hesitate to recommend the Carmens. It's not in the prettiest area however as a base I can not fault it. We will certainly return to this hotel when in the area again.

Room Tip: Higher floor less A/C noise
