The hotel staff was friendly ,the room was very nice and clean .The restaurant was overpriced for what was served at breakfast .Otherwise a good experience.

We recently stayed at the Sheraton in downtown Hamilton. We were with a group and had rented 7 rooms. We experienced cold showers on Saturday morning and when we reported this to the front desk we did not even receive an appology. Instead we got told that this often happens. I can handle a cold shower if I must at an $89.00 per night Comfort Inn that includes a hot breakfast. I do not expect to receive a cold shower at a $150 per night hotel. The staff during the check in process were less then friendly, abrupt and not overly helpful. I have often stayed at the Sheraton in downtown Toronto and I would suggest the staff at the Sheraton Hamilton need to be sent somewhere for some training. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

I really didn't have high expectations of this hotel (nothing personal). I'm a Toronto snob with loads of business travel stays at W Hotels and Westins. The Sheraton is not a brand I'm as familiar with. And it was Hamilton, ON (take this with a grain of salt, please).

I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness at the front desk, the bottled water and granola bar gift for being a SPG Gold Member, and the room was nice, clean and I believe recently renovated. And the beds were super comfortable.

I have had more complaints at Westins in major North American cities and had zero complaints at the Sheraton, Hamilton.

We needed a centrally based hotel for stay over the Christmas period. The Crowne Plaza were woeful in their responses whereas Gassan Elbard was very helpful and informative in arranging our stay.
Unfortunately at checkin we were advised that the club level was closed for renovation and alternatve meal arrangements were available. As we were meeting with family use of the lounge was a key factor in selecting this hotel.
The room we were allocated was fairly small and had no heating. In December! Just what was going on.
Luckily Gassan was on duty and arranged an upgrade to a suite which was better than the use of the club lounge for our family needs.
The Link was a good facility. The bed was superb and the breakfast was good and good value.
The family used the pool and hot tub and were complimentary.
The Christmas Day Buffet was very good in terms of value and quality of food.
The hotel is within 70 metres of Hamilton Public Library and are currently trialling WIFI which you can pick up in your room free of charge although not a fully secure connection.
The adjoining shopping mall is a tad run down but has the obligatory liquor stoe and Tim Hortons.
Go East on King for a couple of blocks and you will find a good Lebanese restaurant.
The staff could have been more friendly but were ok.
Overall we would use this hotel again.

If you wish to stay at any credible hotel in downtown Hamilton (a city of 500,000), you unfortunately have only 2 choices. The Sheraton, and the Crowne Plaza. There used to be a Staybridge Suites in downtown, but has since turned into a Seniors home, and since that has happened the Sheraton has abused their near monopoly in the area. They know they are the only credible hotel in the area to stay at, and they charge (and nickel & dime I might add...) whatever they want. I've stayed at this hotel for the past 10 years helping put on a conference at the next-door HECFI facilities (The Crowne Plaza is just a little too far to walk to the HECFI venues). Pricing has increased at least 100% in 10 years, and all that shows for it is 3 new elevators (which were badly needed) and a renovated fitness room. They now price-gouge simply because they know that businesses and conferences have no other viable options in the area. Its a shame really. I've had many positive experiences in the past, but this past experience was a real slap in the face. The staff are very straight-faced, and not responsive. Almost too professional (almost snobby), and really lacking a friendly touch. Many of the un-renovated rooms are in terrible condition, so be sure to ask for a renovated room (the 5th floor was all renovated).
One redeeming feature was the new LINK@Sheraton business centre. It was a great place to print last minute documents, and was very warm and inviting.
I can only hope that the Sheraton gets a new competitor in the area, or I'll be expecting more painful experiences, or perhaps we'll move our business from Hamilton altogether.

Went to a wedding in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for a Fri & Sat night. Stayed at the Sheraton, in the heart of downtown Hamilton. Flew to Detroit and drove 3 hours. (See more below about getting there.*) I stayed in room 1221, with a lovely view of the water and parts of the city. The room was much nicer than I expected for the price. It was modern and very new looking. I paid a special rate of $139 for 2 queen beds, as there were several room reserved for this wedding. Wonderful linens, duvets and multiple pillow choices. Nice big screen TV, but we never used it. Decent size bathroom and nice shower head. We ate a delicious breakfast - a la carte - in the dining room, reasonably priced for a hotel. Nice modern decor. Best of all was our server, Steven, who even brought us directions to the big shopping mall, and other entertainment in the city. I used the workout room that was well maintained, with modern equipment. The fitness room looks out onto the indoor pool and jacuzzi. Only drawback to my stay was figuring out where to park when you go into the underground parking garage. They need better signage. However, only $10 per day during your stay.
* More on traveling to Hamilton: Hamilton is 'Steel Town', but still the downtown is very quaint and not too big. You could combine it with going to Niagara on the Lake, for example. Closer than Detroit, you could also fly to Buffalo and drive 1 hr. Much cheaper to fly to a US destination if you already live in the US instead of flying to Toronto. Besides, you need a rent-a-car anyways as even the Toronto airport is about 1.25 hours away. Only negative is the time it might take to cross the border. Just don't pick a peak time to cross.

We stayed one night at the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel and was super disappointed by the lack of cleanliness in our room. Thankfully, we were given a room that has been recently renovated (apparently not all rooms are renovated) but the sink was dirty along the edges, there was hair in the sink and the counter and the bath tub needed a good rinse. As Starwood Preferred Guests, we received a complimentary water bottle and a granola bar upon arrival and the front desk service was very pleasant. However, we were told that only Platinum members (and not Gold) are allowed access to the member floor even though we recently stayed at the Sheraton in Petaluma, California and was allowed access.

The underground parking lot is small and you have to walk quite a bit to get to the hotel entrance from the parking lot. We paid a daily rate of $9.99 plus HST per day with in and out privileges.

Perhaps the best thing about this hotel is the location. It is right in downtown Hamilton and you can walk pretty much everywhere ... but then again, Hamilton isn't a large city so location isn't as important. We'll likely try and stay at the Crowne Plaza next time because it looked nicer and newer than the Sheraton.
