The quality of the food has really gone down. The food is oily and the cooking oil is old / reused. Vegetables were overcooked and tasteless. The selection in the buffet has declined as well. But the food is cheap.

We were staying in Guelph and my kids are suckers for all-you-can-eat crab legs, so we decided to try out the Kings Buffet.

The chain to beat in the the Greater Toronto Area is Mandarin Buffet, apologies for the comparison for those who aren't familiar with it. They're known for good quality chinese buffet, interesting themes in the restaurants, and unique seasonal specials.

The Kings Buffet in Guelph has clearly copied the theme of Mandarin, with a waterfall and Koi pond in the entrance and a nice blue-sky mural over the buffet area.

The buffet itself included a mid-sized salad bar, steam table with a mix of chinese and north american food, pre-made sushi table, grill, and dessert area. \

We came for the crab legs, and they really weren't very good. They were sitting in water on the steam table, and most of them were so over-boiled that the shells wouldn't crack and the meat just fell apart. Some were okay, but very hit and miss depending on how long they had been sitting there.

The traditional items, especially chicken based items, were not good. Chewy chicken, dry rice, and overall unappetizing dishes.

Desserts were actually better than most Chinese buffets, including ice cream flavours like Tiger Tail that you just don't find elsewhere. Cakes and squares were decent.

I won't be returning to Kings Buffet in Guelph.

Having not enjoyed my experiences at the King's Buffet in Kitchener, I was impressed and pleasantly surprised by how good this KB location was.
The kids wanted to go, so I thought I would try this location instead.
The layout is excellent, the buffet tables are accessible on both sides, the service was great and the food impressed me. The "Sushi" was quite enjoyable and I could not find anything to complain about with any of the foods, desserts or restaurant itself.
It's not "The Mandarin", but it's more affordable and not too shabby.
