“Glad we finally managed a visit!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2014

Elixir was a refreshing find. The environment was peaceful and elegant, with a few French bistro touches, but not over done. The food was all freshly prepared and carefully seasoned.

We had the daily soup which was a smoothly blended green lentil with turmeric ... outstanding, The veal stew in white sauce was rich, flavourful, and filling. The meat was fall apart tender, the mushrooms were perfectly cooked, the seasoning was subtle, and the overall result was excellent. The Caesar salad was crisp, bite sized, with just enough crisp bacon, fresh parmesan, and croutons. The croutons were nicely sized, not the huge chunks that seem to have invaded the market.

The one disappointment was the red sauce on the pasta. The sauce was lacking in flavour, the slices of hot sausage were too big. and the pasta was slightly over cooked. But then, we should have stuck to French food in a French bistro!

We will definitely be back to try some of the other French dishes that looked very tempting.

“Unforgettable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2014 via mobile

We are new to Cambridge and visited Elixir for the first time on a Friday night, arriving around 7pm, in addition with 3 other couples. The ambiance and atmosphere were a refreshing delight in comparison to most places we've been so far. The service was great, we received our wine service professional and promptly. Goat cheese salad and tiger shrimp came in good time and were incredible. I ordered the fillet of monk fish. The dish was complete from the light texture of the fish, to the complimentary accent of the lemon butter glaze. It came with a side dish of lentil salad which was unlike anything I've ever tried before. The chef has an incredible talent. My husband had the lamb shank, to all of you lamb lovers out there, this is a must try! The description said "fall off the bone" and it lived up to that fully. Overall our experience was a 10/10 in every aspect; service, food, atmoshphere, decor. We will be back regularly.

“Not up to expectations”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2014

we had dinner on a slow march saturday night - 4-5 tables of patrons. the ambience is quite nice. the server was friendly. we ordered wine, appetizers and mains together. wine came promptly, then we waited and waited for the appies (nothing too complex - caesar salad and scallops). Patrons arriving after us got their appetizers well before us. the server never offered an update or apology. they finally came, and as soon as we were done, the mains arrived. the kitchen needs to work on their timing. the food was quite good - well prepared and tasty.
when i noted the timing issue with the server, she said she was the only one on the floor, hence the delay. in fact, she set 3 tables while we waited for the appetizers so she wasn't the holdup.
it's the little things that make a good restaurant great. an explanation, an apology, a freebie drink - anything would have helped the situation.
perhaps we will give them another try in the future.

“A Wonderful Surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

Was looking for a special but comfortable restaurant to take a friend for a birthday dinner and was delightfully surprised by the food, service and warm ambiance at this wonderful little restaurant. From the warm greeting when we arrived to the last drop of great coffee, everything about Elixir made for a special birthday evening. The birthday girl had the lamb shank and raved about it for days while my Duck Confit was equally memorable. The salads were fresh and interesting and the dressings were flavourful but did not overwhelm the wonderful ingredients. The service was helpful and attentive without being cloying. Even my special request for a hot tea with fresh ginger was handled with a smile. I will definitely be returning to Elixir and I won't wait for a special occasion to bring me back.
