So, let's talk about all the good things first.
1. Reservation process was so smooth and they were very accommodating, even though I had to change our reservation twice.
2. The restaurant is absolutely wonderful. We had the tasting menu and it was to die for. I'd say one of the best meals I've had in a long time. I would come back for special occasions for sure!
3. We loved having a fire place in our room.
Coming from a modern home in Toronto, a fire place is such a treat.
Now a few things that can be improved on:
Because the hotel is one of the few places on the relais & chateaux list in Canada, maybe we just put our expectations a little too high. We have visited other hotels on the list in Europe, and I don't think this hotel is at par for a few reasons. The service is friendly, but not polished. Front desk reception seemed slightly disorganized, and maybe some staff require more training (except the one gentleman who works the day shift does know his stuff). The rooms are comfortable and spacious, but a bit dated and some area needed maintenance. Also we found the entrance to the second floor main house is quite odd. After walking up the lovely stairs, you are met with a big white dorm style door, which really kills the romantic antique look of the house. The spa treatment was also just okay. I know it's winter, so it's not the best time to judge the grounds, but the lawn really looked unkept.
