“Big Meals”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

If you’re heading to the Big Maple on the QEW and want something to eat, try this diner out. Russell William’s is a Burlington tradition that continues to serve big meals. The decor and setting is the typical diner style and the menu has all the usual culprits on it.

I ordered the meatloaf special and it came with salad bar, garlic toast, veg, spuds, and a rice pudding. I definitely got my money’s worth. I found the meatloaf to be dominated by the taste of garlic. I like garlic, but I don’t like so much in meatloaf. The garlic toast had enough in it and they used some real butter. The salad bar was a cut above average and it was all fresh. The veggies were not fresh and that was only a problem because the waitress said they were. The rice pudding had a sprinkle of cinnamon on it and that gave it a bit of class.

The meal was good enough and I have eaten there several times with good results. Just take exit 78 to Plains Road and Bob’s your uncle. Nearby is the Royal Botanical Gardens, LaSalle Waterfront Park, and the Aldershot train station that has trains into the Big Maple (Toronto), VIA trains to all to points and Amtrac trains to the USA.

“Burlington's Legendary Greasy Spoon”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

I hesitate to use the phrase "greasy spoon" to describe this place, since that term does have some poor connotations to it. But it paints a picture that fits - think family restaurant, booth seating, fountain drinks and arguably the best breakfasts anywhere. Russel Williams is an institution for good reason - the food and service and fantastic. It's simple, good food at its finest.

RW is best known for breakfast, and rightly so. Go on a weekend and expect to wait in line for a table. On Sunday mornings, you might find 20 people waiting outside. Sounds nuts, but put your name in and get in line, because it's totally worth it. If the parking lot is full (as it often is on weekends) you can usually park across the street in the bank's parking lot.

Lunch and dinner are good too, with a pretty diverse menu. But breakfast is what puts this place on the map. It's just really, really good.

Will definitely repeat. Maybe today.

“OK”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

The service was not so great, but the food was decent enough. Our server was a dark haired younger girl (24-26) who seemed more interested in whatever was going on behind the scenes in the kitchen. She kept coming out crying or very upset..very awkward and off putting. Might return but WILL NOT let that wacky waitress serve me again

“Great Family Restaurant”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We come here quite often for breakfast on the weekends. It's a very popular spot. Come early if you don't want to line up for a table. Our kitchen was recently under renovations so we stopped in for dinner one night which we'd never done before. Had their swiss mushroom burger. The burgers are made on the premises and are huge. They are excellent! Reasonable prices, great service. One of our faves.

“Friendly, Fast and........um, greasy?”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

I visit the famous Russell Williams Restaurant and enjoyed the friendliness and speed at which food arrived. The issue was the food itself which was greasy and/or poorly cooked. The pancakes were doughy and you could literately drain the grease off the ham. The place was busy but it becomes obvious quickly that the median age of the patrons is rather high and I think people might be coming due to comfort and friendliness (which there is a lot of!) as opposed to the food.
