If you’re heading to the Big Maple on the QEW and want something to eat, try this diner out. Russell William’s is a Burlington tradition that continues to serve big meals. The decor and setting is the typical diner style and the menu has all the usual culprits on it.
I ordered the meatloaf special and it came with salad bar, garlic toast, veg, spuds, and a rice pudding. I definitely got my money’s worth. I found the meatloaf to be dominated by the taste of garlic. I like garlic, but I don’t like so much in meatloaf. The garlic toast had enough in it and they used some real butter. The salad bar was a cut above average and it was all fresh. The veggies were not fresh and that was only a problem because the waitress said they were. The rice pudding had a sprinkle of cinnamon on it and that gave it a bit of class.
The meal was good enough and I have eaten there several times with good results. Just take exit 78 to Plains Road and Bob’s your uncle. Nearby is the Royal Botanical Gardens, LaSalle Waterfront Park, and the Aldershot train station that has trains into the Big Maple (Toronto), VIA trains to all to points and Amtrac trains to the USA.
