“Tough not to get en-Gaged at Gage Park....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2013

Gage Park is nicely located in the heart of downtown Brampton, which is a lot nicer than the suburban sprawl that is usually associated with Peel Region. Gage's charm is that the City of Brampton does a solid job of dressing it up. In winter, the lights and skating rink bring the community together. It's really quite nice and comfortable. The picnic tables and skate rental area makes the experience as comfortable and accessible as can be expected. The trees and the upkeep of the park make it ideal for photo, especially with fall colors. My main qualms with Gage Park is the lack of parking, which is only pronounced because this gem of a park is so popular. It's popularity and its size, makes Gage Park feel smaller than it is. The playground for kids is okay, nothing special but does the trick. I highly recommend a trip to Gage Park when visiting in Brampton, you will not be disappointed.

“The map here indicates Gage Park is in Brampton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

If so, I have no comments. The same park in Hamilton, is a hidden gem of the city of Hamilton; a bequest tract of land that couldn't be matched today, akin to Toronto's Hyde Park on a smaller scale. Great for families.

“Great Place to go Ice Skating!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

It's a very well decorated and maintained outdoors ice skating park. Make sure you dress warmly, bring change for parking and hot chocolate. Bring a camera, and your skates! There is a skate rental available. Free admission

“night-time skating at gage park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

took my daughter, nearly 6yrs old, skating tonight at gage park. it was *so* beautiful - all the trees and the gazebos were festooned with lights and there were arches over the ice trail trimmed with cedar and bows and more lights. the ice trail is *thick* and the zamboni comes out periodically to freshen it up.

security is excellent - two skate guards in high-visibility vests at all times, plus both park security and Peel Police made pass-throughs.

the ice was *packed* - so many people, yet the chaos was orderly. the highly-skilled whipped around the ice easily avoiding the slower skaters, the tottering children, and the beginners trying to get back up off the ice.

quibbles: skate rentals and snack bar are only open thurs-sat 6pm to 9pm, which is bogus - today is tuesday and we would've stayed longer than 2hrs if i'd had some coffee or at least some hot chocolate. at least put a mobile vending cart or something.

the other big downer for me was the amount of cement around the ice. most of the rubber matting fell far short of the ice, requiring that either i lift my daughter up and over (not easy: she's 61lbs) or we walk back to the single matted launching point, which is poorly constructed unless the skater is skilled enough to jump from the platform onto the ice. my daughter isn't - she tried to hold onto the rail to get onto the ice and ended up skidding uncontrollably in a 3/4 circle to land on her back on the cement next to the launch point. she was very well padded and helmeted so she just laughed and waited for me to get her up but if she'd been dressed like so many of the other little children (leggings, jackets, no helmet) she could've been seriously hurt.
