I suppose this is bound to happen when a place changes hands. At one time their battered haddock was simply to die for, with mounds of excellent fries. Now, it's just about OK, with higher prices and smaller portions.

And very poor service. Our waiter on Saturday was OK, but he was fighting a losing battle against a non-existent bar service - the bar was totally unmanned at lunchtime on a Saturday, and we had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks. I mean, how long does it take to pour two beers?

The waiter came back to take our order, before the drinks had arrived, and he told us that he had placed our drinks order - in other words, "Sorry, folks, this is not my fault." And it wasn't because the place was packed - it was pretty empty. I'm really not surprised.

Having a great location is simply not enough. And relying on past reputation just doesn't work. The problem is that every other fish restaurant that we've tried in Belleville is worse. If anyone can recommend one, please do.

This is a great restaurant to go to for special yet informal occasions. It is nice to sit at a table and look out over the harbour. Food is very good, and the owner and staff are very friendly and customer-oriented.

The Boat House is situated in a lovely spot right down by the river. It is lovely to sit outside on a warm Summer's evening. We dined there last year and thought the food was good. However we were a little disappointed this time. It is quite pricey too. Staff are very friendly though.

If you like fried seafood then this is the place to go. Battered haddock was fried perfect (one piece), Unfortunately a couple of breaded shrimp and chewey small scallops didn't fare so well. Pasta with crab had a good general crab flavour but way over-priced. In fact, everything in this restaurant was way over-priced. Nothing on the menu really stood out as being different than the seafood found at any other roadhouse pub, But this isn't a roadhouse pub and we expected some "signature dishes" and creative dishes from a seafood restaurant. Not here.

Did I say that the fried food was good!

The service was good once it started. After being seated, we waited, and waited, and waited (Patience is a virtue) till finally I went to the bar and asked them to send a waitress.

Unfortunately the weather was not very cooperative to sit out on the outdoor Patio, however
the waitress sat us in a great location, we could look out and see all the beautiful sail boats.
The food was great and so was the service, the only problem I had was the loud music
the waitress had great difficulty hearing what we were ordering, a couple of items did not
come, but she simply said she did not hear what we wanted. She did however apologize
both during the meal and when we were leaving. You go to a restaurant to relax and have
soothing music. The waitress did her very best to assist us despite the noise.
