“Best Pizza in Barria”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2014

I'm not a fan of chain pizzerias. They all are the same, they virtually weigh out every ingredient, and its impossible to get an old fashioned "loaded" pizza. Well Pizzeria Italia is an old fashioned family owned pizzeria. There pizza is loaded with whatever toppings you ask for, as well as ample cheese to cover everything. The pizzas are a little more pricey than the big chains. For me its worth it to support independent local business. This is our favorite take-out pizza.

“Best sandwiches.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2013

Had the veal parmesan and meatball sandwich takeout. Had a lasagna and penne carbonara with the wife in the dining room. Caesar salad was good we shared. All fantastic. Love that fresh bread and sauce. Will always be back.

“Old School”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

This Barrie restaurant was our regular "after closing" spot 40 years ago when we lived over the old hardware store on nearby Dunlop Street. Since then, Barrie has doubled in size, and lost some of the old small town "soul" that we enjoyed at the time. That said, the Pizzaria Italia, has remained remarkably unchanged. The decor appears exactly the way we remembered it, right down to the photograph of the owner's son holding a large pizza...and I swear the Italian landscapes on the wall are the same.

Enough nostalgia. What is truly remarkable, the menu and food appears to be the same also. Forget the fancy thin crust/whole wheat gourmet offerings, just enjoy the traditional (1970's) pizza. Our order of pizza and antipasto was as expected - reasonably priced and satisfying. The Italian sausage topping was not the crumbly sausage as remembered, but was more like pepperoni, and the anchovies were hard to find.

Overall, a pleasant, casual, and inexpensive place for a bite, with none of the pretensions or prices of nearby restaurants.
