“Good News: Kelly's Landing is Now Open March through December”

We came by boat (as usual) on a nice almost-warm Sunday in mid-September and again found the food and service to be very good and the beer cold and served quickly. (See my previous review for more detail.) I had fish and chips and my wife had a Panini. We also saw more children than usual - the little ones love the boats, the view, and ice cream served at the store at road level. But what we learned in chatting with the owner was that the restaurant is open March thru December - my previous review was in error. This is good news indeed!

I have no hesitation in recommending Kelly's Landing for a convenient getaway meal out of Ottawa, partilcularly if it's a sunny day with fluffy clouds. Get a table on their deck which sits on the banks of the Rideau River. Wlhile you eat or enjoy your drink, you can watch boats cruise by or ducks landing. It's quiet, peaceful, with good food. I especially like their fish chowder, but their other seafood dishes and salads are better than average.

We have dined at restaurants around the world - and this place remains one of our favorites for casual dining on a nice summer day. (They are only open from late May to early October.) Since most of the restaurant is on an exposed patio overlooking the Rideau River, this is not the place to come if it is raining. (If it is sunny, sun-screen may be needed.) And on a warm summer weekend day the place tends to be packed by us "locals" and those in Ottawa who have discovered it. The service staff are local folks who enjoy working there and it shows, although at times there is a bit of a lag-time to get seated. And yes, the tiny kitchen can get backed up but the three times we have been there this season we have had excellent meals served nice and hot and certainly fast enough for our liking. We often come by boat and this is where we also buy gas for our boat. The owner, easily identified by a ready smile, curly grey hair, and deep tan, is often around the front at the store, or pumping gas at the riverside dock - and he lives next door. The seafood chowder is among the best we have had anywhere - and we have it all over the world. There is a variety of cold beer on tap and a limited selection of wine, but quite suitable for the fare. The fish and chips are good, and we always have the chowder. This time at the urging of friends my wife had the chicken boxty and I had the seafood boxty. Wonderful! The sauces are so good we ate every drop. But do be prepared for a casual setting. The furniture is all plastic outdoor patio furniture - after all, when it rains there is no room inside to store anything, so what would one expect? The negative reviews posted by others seem to be of a very different place than the one we know.

The Title says it all ! Great view of the Rideau River but has an overpriced, limited very basic menu. Tired Cottage like patio furniture. Avoid this place - not worth the trip or the money !

Stopped in this past Saturday, July 6th, 2013. Food was what we could best describe as sub-par at best. Service from waitress staff was decent but food took a long time to get out from kitchen due to an alleged, "back up". Food arrived luke warm and was nowhere near as great as what some others describe as, "...some of the best food..." and "...best dining experiences..." I don't know where or how often these folks get out but it's not as often or at the same places where we go.
