NOT WORTH THE $8 PARKING FEE. We had purposely spent an extra day in Ottawa to take the kids to “Canada’s Largest Waterpark”. Wish we had left a day earlier. The park had been featured on the local news while we were in Ottawa and had been advertised as “Canada’s Biggest and Best”. It was neither. The drive was about 35 minutes out of the city. As we are driving down this road in the middle of nowhere, we start to see parking signs for $8.00 which always annoys us, if we are going to the park why pay for parking; it is not like there is an alternative cheaper parking option. Anyway, we pay the fee and get ready to enter the park. To our fault, we are there on a very crowded and hot Saturday perhaps better planning would have reduced the lines but it would not have improved the experience. For a new park, many of the slides were older in design and poorly placed around the park. They claimed to have 35 slides but I think they included the small kiddie slides attached to the toddler play structure. Many of the rides were the same and located very close to one another which did not allow much room for the long lines. My kids enjoyed the wave pool but they had a strange rule that no shirts were allowed pass a certain point which meant my family had to take off their protective sun shirts in order to enjoy the full affect of the waves. The “raging” Jungle River was far from raging and was so crowded we barely fit. My kids enjoyed the boomerang slide but only got one ride because the wait was over an hour. Many of the slides were the kind without mats and my son has scratched his back on those before so he is weary of going down them. The food was disgusting! You had two options – an overpriced sit down restaurant whose plates didn’t look bad but who wants to pay $14 for a sandwich and some fries or a cafeteria that served poorly cooked burgers, chicken patties and hot dogs. There was only one ice cream place and they ran out of chocolate by 2:00 pm. Having visited Valcartier in Quebec this place was not worth the price of admission! Save your money and find a nearby beach to spend the day – we wish we had!

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write a comment after your visit at Calypso.

We do have a parking fee like other attraction parks. We are a private company that built a huge waterpark and invested over $50 million dollar in it. It was chosen by the owner at the opening of the park that the parking would have a fee. Note that your comment concerning the parking will be transferred to the concerned department.

For the crowded Saturday, it is always better to visit Calypso on weekdays and cloudy days since it's less crowded and the lineups are shorter.

We do have more than 35 waterslides for example Summit Tower is 10 slides and we'll have a new theme river in 2013. We do count kiddie slides since they are important for families. Note that we also have an active river, a wave pool and 7 courses for the entire family.

For the food, you can bring your own lunch and we have tons of restaurants such as a cafeteria, a table d'hôte restaurant, healthy bistro, etc.

We hope to see you again next year on a less crowded day.

We visited on a sunny hot Saturday in early July and knew it would be busy so came prepared and with realistic expectations after visiting Canada's Wonderland. Unlike CW we found Calypso does many things better in order to deal with the huge volume of people like allowing you to bring your own cooler with drinks and food reducing pressure on the food outlets and actually found ourselves buying snacks and drinks at the bar because the lineups weren't outrageous as Canada's Wonderland was where you lost an hr just getting food. The one thing Calypso needs to still get right is to allow you to purchase admission in advance online as the lineup to pay and enter the waterpark is huge and takes a long time. Great to see they know they have capacity problems as they already had construction underway for a large new lazy river and more area beyond the existing park for next summer.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment concerning your visit at Calypso. Note that since 2010 you can buy your tickets and season passes online at calypsopark.com. When you buy online you save a lot of time and don't have to do the lineups.

We hope to see you again next summer.

Great place! This was our second time with our 8 and 4 year old. We arrived early on a grey day just like the first time so no lines and no one around. Even into lunch time not a big line up for slides but by that time the kids were enjoying the wave pool and the kiddie area. Lots of fun.

Best to visit with 4-6 people as there are 6 person tube rides and some that are 3-4 person tube rides as well. Take advantage of the new money at your fingertips system, saves so much time and it's so easy to use.
Not for the faint of heart, but if you can muster up the courage, I highly recommend the Aqualoops! Two tubes criss cross to form a pretzel like structure. You step into a tube, when they close the glass enclosure you hear a count down from 3. Keep your feet crossed and ideally (though i don't know how not to scream my lungs out) keep your mouth closed. You almost freefall down this tube and then you shoot up through this loop!! Amazing!
I've visited once a year since they opened for business and I plan to keep going. It just keeps getting better!

Very impressed - we went on a Thursday and there was rain in the forecast, although the day was mostly sunny and hot. Parking lot not even 1/3 full, and worst lineups were only 15 mins. Rides were unbelievable, lazy river terrific, kids splash area a complete water park in itself. Only complaints would be that charging $8 for parking on top of the expensive admission fees (and the park is in the middle of nowhere - not like you can take a city bus there instead!) and that everyone has to pay even if someone like my wife who has vertigo and won't be getting in the water or going on the slides. Why don't they give out bracelets for those who are going to swim/slide (different colours for different heights) and charge a nominal amount for other visitors like $10 to enter the park for the day?

In any event, the park is well set up, everything close to eachother, and there were washrooms and water fountains conveniently located between the slides. It would seem to me that a season pass would be well worth it. It would be nice if they had family rate season passes. Also they could benefit from more deals/coupons - maybe waiting until business trails off before they start giving those out??

Hello,

We are happy to hear you had a blast with your family at Calypso.

For tickets note that even handicaps pay a fee to enter the park. We lowered the ticket and make them pay the under 1.32 m instead of over 1.32 m. We understand that we often have people not sliding for any reasons such as seniors, pregnant women, handicaps or people with vertigo, like your wife. Our priority at the park is the safety of our clients we have over 125 lifeguards at calypso but their job is to ensure safety on-site and that the attractions run well. We can't start checking everyone with or without bracelets it . We have another park in Quebec City called Valcartier Vacation Village where we do have a ground access for people not sliding but they still don't have access to the site where the attractions are. They have access to restaurants, boutique and the main pavillon.

Note that we lowered our season pass for next year. Adults paid $99 plus tx instead of $149 plus tx and people under 1.32 m pay $89 plus tx instead of $119 plus tx. If you plan to come a couple of times in the summer it is worth it. We also have a coupon in Attractions Ontario.

We do have a parking fee at Calypso like other parks such as Canada's Wonderland or La Ronde. Note that we are constantly expanding and will have a new theme river with inner tubes in 2013. It is an investment of $6 million.

We hope to see you again in 2013!
