“Welcoming inn with a great restaurant.”
Reviewed August 30, 2013 via mobile

We spent two nights here at the end of August. Nice big room overlooking the ocean. Lots of fun activities especially for kids including bicycles and pedal boats. There is a nightly bonfire on the protected beach under the stars. The restaurant is outstanding. Our waitress Sherry went above and beyond when I requested mint sauce on my lamb. They didn't plan to serve that but she collected fresh mint and made it to my specs. Great place to stay and vacation.

My wife and I were pointed to the Pictou Lodge by a colleague of mine. The setting is magical and the log cabin room proved most comfortable.

The restaurant meal was superb and worth every penny of what we paid for it (the table service was beyond reproach and I've eaten at some top ten listed US restaurants).

But for my money, what really made this place shine was simply the staff - it just didn't matter who you dealt with they could answer your questions, make recommendations etc. A 'can do' approach across the board.

We shall be back.

Spent a night on the way from Cape Breton to Prince Edward Island. A magnificent Log cabin type main building. We stayed in a motel room which was clean with a large bed and very efficient bath. Nice grounds with lake, and beach. Great view of Northumberland Strait and PEI. Before dinner we had drinks in main lounge by the cozy field stone fireplace. We had dinner in the dinning room. Window seat with view of the Strait at sunset was fantastic. Oysters, chowder, and Northumberland lamb rack was exquisite.
This place excels on service. Next morning during breakfast we discovered we needed to hightail it to the ferry. Front desk, waitstaff, and kitchen went out of their way to get us checked out and breakfasted rapidly. Even so was one of the best breakfasts we had during our entire trip. What a gem of a place.

We were in town for a wedding, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The king size bed was very comfortable and I'm so impressed with the size of the grounds (not having been there in many years). We had friends staying in the Exec. Chalets so we had a chance to visit those accommodations as well. Absolutely beautiful chalets if you have enough people. The air conditioning was a blessing as well!

The wedding reception was also held at the lodge and the food and service was great. Beautiful location inside.

Lovely stay, lovely spot - recommend!

We stayed here last year at one of the vintage 3 bedroom cottages and this year, because we were only staying one night, we had to stay in a motel-type unit. We stayed with family members as well, side-by-side.

The food in the dining room, overlooking the wonderful Northumberland Strait, was much better than last year so, something has changed in the kitchen - the food was great and delicious for children and adults alike and the breakfast exceeded our expectations - that and the wide view if the horizon made for a special early start. The only thing missing would be a child menu for breakfast - however the staff was able to suggest splitting a breakfast in two for kids.

The rooms we had were clean, towels were lush, the bed was one of the best ever with beautiful bedding, the living room leather couch opened to a generous and comfortable for one of the grand kids.

The one thing missing was Internet service throughout the late evening and through the night - don't know what happened there.

Okay as usual the heated saltwater outdoor pool was a huge hit with the whole family. the fire pit at night was a big hit with everyone as we're the marshmallows to roast.

Two paddle boards were added to the small flotilla of water craft, including canoes, a kayak and a couple of paddle boats.

The beach area seems much bigger this year and great lounging chairs have been added - nice.

We love going to Pictou Lodge for a lot of reasons - you will too.

Room Tip: So far we haven't had a poor room. It is all fun and great views with a dash of vintage nostalgi...

Great spot with a short season on the Pictou County shore. Originally a Railway Hotel it has been completely modernized and expanded. It has recovered from a kitchen fire three years ago to its original elegance. The food is marvelous and the view of the Northumberland Strait unequaled. On a clear day PEI can be seen and the ferries followed shore to shore.

Don't forget to reserve for Sunday Brunch...it is unequaled in Nova Scotia.

Room Tip: Rooms are individual cottages. They all have full amenities...some are closer to the restaurant and...

My wife and I decided to go for a drive and ended up at the Lodge in Pictou. We had never been there before and were pleasantly surprised. The grounds were very well kept and the beach very nice. We had a nice dinner in the restaurant with an amazing view of the ocean. We stayed in one of the newer cottages and it was very nice, rustic.

Room Tip: we didnt see any room besides the newer cottage we stayed in. If we were to go back I would ask for...
