“Water View??”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2012

Stayed recently at the Evening Sail. Requested a water view room on the phone. We were told that we would get a room with a water view but there would be some trees partially blocking our "water" view.. Nobody mentioned that there would be a mini micro view of the water if we could see past the old, abandoned, rundown "factory" just below our balcony. Seriously? Found this to be bordering on dishonest. Breakfast would have been interesting and perhaps a saving grace meeting other guests but unfortunately it was difficult to have a conversation with the guests due to the constant chatter of Michelle. She never stopped talking and talking loudly. Just not impressed. We only stayed because it was late in the day and we were tired. Traffic noise was invasive and disturbing throughout the night. Would NEVER stay at this B & B again.

Room Tip: See the room before you take it. Make sure it is what you want. Don't leave it too late in the...

What a delightful experience we had at The Evening Sail earlier this month. Our room (in the house next door) was more like an apartment - couldn't have asked for more - two very tall and very comfy beds, sofa and chair for tv watching, full kitchen with table and chairs and a sun porch at the back overlooking the garden. The owners (Michelle and Gail) were such a fun pair of ladies which made the yummy breakfast all the better with great conversation along with great food. I agree with a previous review that the pumpkin pancakes were exceptional. I would recommend this B&B to anyone travelling to Pictou and area. It is like a home away from home without having to lift a finger!

Stayed for 1 night in the Pebble Room, a room better suited for 1 person as really small, although the bathroom is very spacious. The two other rooms in the B & B were twice the size, but we booked this room for the rate so can't complain. The bedroom itself is spotlessly clean & bright in decor & the bed very comfortable (for 1 person). The biggest fault of this B & B for this particular room is that it is located right next to the main road in Pictou & we had little sleep all night due to the constant passing of traffic & noise - also not able to close the window due to the air-con unit being located in the actual window. Michelle, the host, was very informative about Pictou & the breakfast the following morning is a very socialable affair with all guests sitting around the same large dining table. Note: Not a lot to do/see in Pictou & looking a bit rundown.

Room Tip: Avoid the Pebble Room for traffic noise unless you live in a noisey city! Room suitable for the sol...

This B&B is one of the best! I enjoy staying here when on business trips. The service is second to none. You can stay in the main house or in the house next door which is really like an apartment. The view of the harbor is nice. The staff make you feel like family. Breakfast is exceptional. I would say it's like home but I don't eat this good at home! You will not be disappointed in this B&B. My co worker had a sore throat and we asked about a tea bag. We ended up having an impromptu "tea party" that afternoon. It turned into a fun time with jokes and stories. That's not part of their offering but these folks go out of their way to make you feel like you belong.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms.

I stay here once or twice a year for several nights when I'm on business in the area. Quality is outstanding. Warm welcome. They go out of their way to meet your needs. The "flannel" sheets are the softest and warmest I have ever slept in. Breakfasts are truly special - both the food and the conversation. There is NO reason to stay in a hotel with the Evening Sail in the area!! You will NOT be disappointed! If you love pumpkin and pancakes, the pumpkin pancakes are to "die for".

Room Tip: The biggest variable is the size of the bathrooms. Be sure you make your needs known so they can pu...

Only stopped one night en route but lovely decorated room huge bed they said they were comfy and best night sleep all three weeks in ns. Owner and mum charming lovely to sit at large table with other guests and much better than bland large hotel. Breakfasts all round ns excellent here fresh muffins, home made frittata and juice, shame I don,t each much for breakfast but husband made up for it . Stopped sept last year highly recommended. If you go into town about 20mins walk we had a very cheap Thai at taks kitchen and what was refreshing was she asked if we wanted it mild medium or hot.

Room Tip: Main road quiet so suspect no room a problem

My wife and I totally enjoyed the service and the special touches in our room. Booking was simple and painless. The B&B's location was near the local sites, but away from the noise. The room was immaculate, well appointed, and had a spectacular view! Breakfast was social and to gourmet standards. You won't go wrong here. We'd recommend this B&B to family and friends alike. One of the nicest we've every enjoyed.
