Caribou/Munroes Island Provincial Park

Caribou is a provincial campground without power, sewer. It has a dump station and several taps to get water for camper. It has many sites with lots of shade and privacy in a wooded setting. Loop A has several sites with ocean views which book quickly. It has a fine beach and the park is family friendly. Highly recommended.

It was our first camping trip withour 1 year old and 3 year old. We loved being able to easily walk to the beach from our cmpsite for a swim or play in the sand. The camp sites are wooded and private within a beautiful old forest. We really enjoyed our time in the Pictou area and enjoyed being just out of town but close enough to skip in for a coffee or groceries. We will be back!

We visited this park as part of our drive around Pictou. There is one entrance onto an unpaved road, so take it slow. The park is relatively small, but has a very good view. From the parking area, there is a large lawn studded with picnic tables and trees. Several families were there eating lunch when we came through. There were also several people bringing their dogs through.

From the grassy area there is a nice overlook of the beach and water. You can access the beach via a couple of graveled/grass paths. There is a lot of seaweed washed up onto this beach, but it has a lot going for it. The slope of the beach into the water means that you can do some wading without getting submerged.

Due to all of the seaweed, there were a number of bugs here. This is kind of to be expected in the summer on the beach, but still noteworthy.

My family and I recently tented Caribou/Munroes Island Provincial Park for three (3) nights. The site was big and private, the walk to the beach was short and staff were exceptionally friendly. The bugs were out, but I guess that's part of camping. I'd go again!

We thought we'd like to give "dry camping" (no services) a try so decided to stay at the Caribou Munroes Provincial Park campground. The price was good for a couple night's stay. Nice big sites, right on the water - the beach was ok, sandy but a little coarse, water was nice. There is one full service washroom building with hot showers in the campground and there are a few "outhouses" located in more convenient places. It was mostly quiet until a few powered up their generators for a little while to power up their batteries or have their morning coffee. The worst part of the stay was the stink; there is a pulp mill a few miles from here and when the wind is right, the stink is rank. We might try this place again but it wouldn't be for a few years.
