Husband and I were in Halifax on business and broke away from the group for dinner. Chives was without a doubt the highlight of our trip. Is it weird to say a meal was the highpoint of the entire trip? Eat at Chives and you'll understand. It's a small place with a limited menu. I love to cook, and more often than not I notice the aspects of a meal that I didn't like. Not so at Chives. The food was spectacular - cooked and seasoned perfectly. Each dish offered so many unique flavor combinations (but perfectly matched, not random ingredients thrown together to sound great when read from the menu). It's relatively casual dining but make a reservation. Go with someone who appreciates good food, take your time, and enjoy the experience. You won't be sorry. This was the best meal I can recall - and that's saying something!
