First visit to this new and very trendy culinary and social experience. The atmosphere is exciting, modern, and classy. Service is exceptional and the staff friendly, engaging, and extremely helpful. We sat at the bar in the upstairs and it was a great experience. Highly recommend this restaurant for business casual, friendship encounters, or just a fun night out.

Stayed next door at the Marriott and this restaurant is ideally located for folks staying there. Even if not in the area this pub is well worth visiting. They have a number of local craft beers and regular cosmopolitan bottles available. Their menu offers an interesting variety of foods ranging from mac and cheese with varied toppings to salmon on a plank which I tried. They have regular pub food such as fish and chips, burgers and pizzas in the $10-15 range.

Some of the craft beer is priced over twenty dollars. However a pint of Keiths was just over $5, and it tasted pretty much as Keiths always has. I tried their salmon on a plank, presentation is good, with the food not being served on a plate but on a piece of thin slate shaped like a chopping block. Here one minus was that the fries on the plate spilled over to the bar counter where I ate which had me rethinking aesthetics in terms of hygiene basics. The salmon was cooked well but was served with a sugary-sweet glaze which caught me by surprise and may or may not work for you depending on what you like in the line of baked salmon. It came with broccoli and a teeny leafy salad with a sweetish vinegarette dressing. Service at the bar was quick and the bartender conversational but not invasively so. Music was not at a level where conversation would have been strained. The pizzas showed an unorthodox collection of taste sensations some of which may have been too sensational for myself, again, pick what works well for your tastebuds.

IMO this is definitely a better offering than some of the alternatives on this street, and likely one of the better options in the area.

Just enjoyed a wonderful evening at The Stubborn Goat! The beer selection is phenomenal and there is also a great wine list if that's more your thing. The food was my favourite part, however. Everything is designed to be shared though the portions are very reasonably sized. Between the three of us that went, we managed to try 5 of the menu offerings and each one was better than the last. Our favourite was the perogies and the loaded fries (it changes every day!) our server James was also great-very friendly and attentive. We all agreed it would be such a good place to bring out of town visitors-the local-themed menu and relaxed Halifax vibe is a winning combination!

After much fanfare the Stubborn Goat has opened, and its great!
Interior to die for with great ambiance and food to match.
100's yes 100's of beers and a great wine list.
Food is defiantly a notch above pub / bar food (more like a gourmet tab is bar with lots of beer and atmosphere.
I'll be back......

This new gastropub specializes in "social plates", pizzas and gourmet mac & cheese. The "social plate" (aka small plate) is a fairly new concept for Halifax, but sharing a number of different small portions is a great way to have a meal. If you feel like a traditional main, these are also available to eat individually or to share.

We tried four social plates (charcuterie, green curry shrimp, risotto croquettes, and chicken thighs on skewers) plus chocolate mousse for dessert. It was all very good. There was a lot more on the menu that we look forward to trying in the future.

They have an extensive list of ales, lagers and stouts, including 17 on tap. A good selection of wines is also available.

Service was good considering they've only been open about 10 days, and are still in the early shake-down period. Our server was friendly & very knowledgeable about the menu and had sampled many of the options; so ... good advice.

They also have a varied selection of gluten-free items.

I strongly recommend trying this new place on the Halifax scene!
