This restaurant has changed its name but not its reputation for fine italian food. When asked the server explained that the Bedford address remains the same name but they felt that a change of name in down town Halifax would lessen confusion, although I am not sure since the trip advisor still has Il mercato listed at this address and in Bedford. So it was we were looking for good Italian and had been to Il Mercato in the past so we arrived at the address to find it gone.

The only thing that seems to have changed is the name. It was lunch so my wife had pumpkin soup and calamari friti and I chose the lunch special chicken linguini salad and pumpkin cheese cake with candied pecan sauce. Absolutely wonderful. A Chilean cabernet sauvignon was a perfect accompaniment .

So the message is dont be fooled by the name change it is still great

Had dinner here on Saturday night for the first time. We decided to forego appetizers and just order mains as we figured the pasta portions would be generous. They were not. The food was nicely presented and of very high quality. The desserts were excellent.

We had dinner on a Friday night at 8h00. The restaurant was packed and we were overwhelmed by the noise level. We couldn't have a conversation with the people at our table. The food was good even though the risotto was too salty....everything else was perfect. My husband told the waiter that he is allergic to nuts and he brought him a plate with scallops with nuts on top....this was not mentionned that there were nuts on the menu. All in all it is a nice restaurant but we will not return because of the noise level.

Everything about our evening was wonderful. The service, the food and the restaurant in general. This was our first visit since the remodel of the former restaurant in this location. The place looks great! It is very crowded and noisy which is exactly how a great restaurant should be, however if you don't enjoy great food surrounded by great people maybe you should go somewhere else. I look forward to my next visit here! The wine, appetizers and desserts were all fantastic. We were a group of four and everyone ordered something different which we all sampled and agreed it was all fantastic.

I had supper here on a busy Saturday night. The food was truly excellent - especially the Gnocci. We were also impressed to receive an amuse-bouche - not something we expected in this price range. A good selection of wines by the glass. Great decor - very fun and welcoming.

What we didn't enjoy was that it was astoundingly loud, and very crowded. My husband and I had to nearly shout across our table to be heard. This was the loudest restaurant we've ever been in, and we found the sound level overwhelming. The tables are very close together, which made getting to the washroom & back like getting through a maze.

The service was friendly but missed several key marks (quality-checks, drink refills) - the waiter didn't seem able to keep up with his tables. Two other waitresses ended up stepping in to clear our table and offer dessert. Again, perhaps because it was so busy?

We enjoyed the food so much that despite the significant flaws we would give it another try - but we'd definitely avoid peak times to see if the experience improves.
