“Best B&B in Halifax”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

Beautiful rooms, excellent breakfasts and a super location all make The Pebble a great Halifax B&B choice and it was certainly the best place we stayed during our 3 week holiday in Nova Scotia.  We were warmly and enthusiastically greeted by Liz and David and made to feel right at home and, by the time we left, we practically felt like family.  We stayed in the Armview room with wonderful views of the Northwest Arm, including many rowers, sailboats and even an ocassional fishing boat passing by our window in the morning.  The Pebble's large country kitchen is really the heart of the house and it is to die for, complete with a large AGA oven, beautiful custom cabinets and a large and inviting kitchen table.  The innkeeper Liz (a.k.a. Elizabeth) is a perfectionist at heart and you'll be the beneficiary of her exacting standards, with the fine linens in your room, the soaps in your bath, the soft, earthy tones of the paint colors on the walls, Irish pottery, Staffordshire dinnerware and Waterford crystal...and delicious fresh, local foods at breakfast.  Liz also has very firm and immediate opinions on your best restauarnt options for dinner, best places to shop downtown, or where to look for good art. Take the advice, too! And if you like dogs, you are also sure to love the two white terriers who are The Pebble's official greeters, tennis ball chasers and breakfast companions.  A two room B&B, so you'll get all the personal attention you could ever want...and, if you're lucky, Liz will sing an Irish ballad in the kitchen while you sit in the living room to read the morning paper.

Room Tip: Choose the Armview room for the view and The Pebble room for an ouside patio and the large, beautifu...

Stayed three nights. Most enjoyable. Nice quiet location, fine rooms, great breakfasts, and great proprietors. Everything you could ask for in a B&B.

My wife and I stayed at the Pebble B&B recently and had a fabulous time there. The "pebble" room was beautiful and very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended if anyone is visiting the Halifax area. Cheers to the owners/operators Elizabeth and Dave!

I had done much research about accomodations in Halifax as my fiance and I were planning to stay in Halifax for 3 nights before venturing to other venues in Nova Scotia. I had reviewed each of the many fine hotels in Halifax, but was taken by the beauty of the rooms and the reviews on TripAdvisor by prior guests at the Pebble. So, I contacted Liz, the owner. She could not have been more helpful or accomodating. When I told her we would be arriving after midnight, she made sure that we would feel welcome. She left a bottle of port and a plate of exceptional cheeses and grapes so that we would not go to bed hungry. This would be the beginning of an exceptional 3 night stay. Her (and her husband's) bed & breakfast is exquisitely decorated, but not in a way that would make me (or, I believe, anyone else feel uncomfortable). Liz and David cooked three unique (and delicious) breakfasts. They are perfectionists and generous and gracious hosts. I am thankful I came across this property and Liz and David.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Pebble room which has a wonderful (and spacious) bathroom with a beautiful tub and...

We recently spent 2 months trekking across Canada, staying at numerous B&Bs along the way and found the Pebble, in particular Elizabeth, David, Lizzy and their 2 little dogs, McDuff and Sive to surpass any other accommodation experience. Given that we were away from home for a relatively long period, we wanted accommodation that made us feel welcome and at home, which the Pebble did very, very well. We can't speak highly enough of our experience there. We're keen to get back!

The Pebble is a beautifully maintained 1920’s house in the quiet Armdale section of Halifax. Through the arched doorway lies a comfortable welcoming foyer and living room, and upstairs there are two suites that are so comfortable you just want to move in. Both are ensuite and both overlook the water. Gourmet breakfasts get prepared before your eyes in an easy manner that contradicts all the preparation involved. All this is down to the owners Liz and Dave O’Carroll; but if I’m honest, the Pebble is largely driven by Liz’s exuberant, gregarious personality. Nothing is too much for them to do for you and Liz draws you away from your room to the farm kitchen below– the Pebble’s engine room – for a cup of tea or coffee that can be accompanied, if you show interest, by reminiscences of their old country, Ireland. Meanwhile the family’s two Westies – McDuff and Sieve --patter around completely at home with the comings and goings of miscellaneous people. It’s a great place that puts the visitor at home in another’s home and also able to retreat into serenity upstairs if you wish –or if you want to take the dogs for a walk, that’s ok too. My wife and I have stayed three times and wouldn’t think of going anywhere else when we are in Halifax. The mixture of old and new world is intoxicating and the owners are a delight to get to know.
