The Pebble Bed & Breakfast

The Pebble is a beautifully maintained 1920’s house in the quiet Armdale section of Halifax. Through the arched doorway lies a comfortable welcoming foyer and living room, and upstairs there are two suites that are so comfortable you just want to move in. Both are ensuite and both overlook the water. Gourmet breakfasts get prepared before your eyes in an easy manner that contradicts all the preparation involved. All this is down to the owners Liz and Dave O’Carroll; but if I’m honest, the Pebble is largely driven by Liz’s exuberant, gregarious personality. Nothing is too much for them to do for you and Liz draws you away from your room to the farm kitchen below– the Pebble’s engine room – for a cup of tea or coffee that can be accompanied, if you show interest, by reminiscences of their old country, Ireland. Meanwhile the family’s two Westies – McDuff and Sieve --patter around completely at home with the comings and goings of miscellaneous people. It’s a great place that puts the visitor at home in another’s home and also able to retreat into serenity upstairs if you wish –or if you want to take the dogs for a walk, that’s ok too. My wife and I have stayed three times and wouldn’t think of going anywhere else when we are in Halifax. The mixture of old and new world is intoxicating and the owners are a delight to get to know.

We spent 5 days in this beautiful house and the good memories of the time spent there, are with us as a legacy of the warmth felt all trough out our stay.
The peaceful surroundings of the residential area are the ideal scenario for walks, close to the water arm.
Our room, the Armwview Suite, was ample, spotless, and decorated with exquisite taste.
Beyond any other facility' highligth, the couple formed by Elizabeth and David makes the difference.
The evening talks with them are excellent planing tools to get the most out of next day.

Stayed at The Pebble for four nights while visiting Halifax to attend my daughter's convocation.Elizabeth provided a warm, gracious welcome. My suite surpassed all expectations: an incredibly comfy feather bed and superbly appointed ensuite. Enjoyed the Darina Allen inspired breakfasts. Highly recommended!

My husband and I , along with another couple, spent 4 lovely days in Halifax in August, using The Pebble as our home base. Liz and David provided beautifully appointed bedrooms, wonderful food and engaging conversation. The well behaved terriers were an added bonus, lounging with us on the terrace as we sat sipping wine in the afternoon. We enjoyed wonderful dining in Halifax,( on Liz's recommendation), toured The Citadel, walked along the waterfront taking in the view, and visited the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Liz also had wonderful lunch recommendations for us during our day trip visiting small towns along the coast. A top notch B&B, highly recommended!

Room Tip: There are only two rooms, both lovely. The house is in a quiet location.

My wife and I have recently spent 5 weeks in Eastern Canada and Washington / Oregon, staying in B & B's. Most of them were very good, but the Pebble was the best - by a margin.
Elizabeth's warm welcome, coffee on the terrace and a pleasant walk around the nearby estuary set the tone for a wonderful 2 night stay. Elizabeth's magical Irish personality shone through, especially over breakfast and we were allowed full run of her fabulous kitchen
Her suggestions on things to see and places to eat in Halifax were spot on.
Our departure was 6am, but that was no problem - delicious muffins were ready and waiting for us.
And she can even hold an intelligent conversation about Rugby!
Definitely the best choice for a luxury stay in Halifax.
