Really nice atmosphere. Located in a really quiet area of Halifax. Friendly staff and an excellent onion soup! Prices are ok

“Decor better than food.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

The French style in the restaurant, from the Eiffel towers, checkered table clothes, nice tables and chairs, are all lovely. The service was good, lovely lady took care of us.
I ordered boeuf bourguignon, caesar salad, my friend a crepe with chicken, sultans mandarins etc with a house salad.
The salad although attractive enough was too small for the amount of croutons, there was a generous amount of Parmesan but it tasted like the pre-shaved one you buy at Costco. The dressing was poor. This salad had no Caesar taste that I could find, slight garlic taste.
The beef bourguignon had no rich colour to it. It was thickened with flour and was a pale brown colour, the meat was very tender but tasted like it had been in a pressure cooker, no flavour, and very disappointing. It was poured over a large portion of mashed potatoes, not very appealing.
The crepe was ok no "wow" factor at all. The side salad was too vinegary to eat.
Dessert was flourless chocolate cake that was dry and ok. I had creme brûlée that was good but too sweet for my liking. Too many fine restaurants to go to . Will not revisit this one. It's too bad but the food need to get in line with the decor. Three glasses of wine 2 entres,2 desserts $110 including tip.

“Yum Yum Delicous!”

I am constantly impressed with Le Bistro. From the welcoming staff to the accommodating service. Being able to modify my meal in order to accommodate dietary restrictions is a huge plus. Always a fan of the Croque Monsieur and the Spinach Salad and the kitchen is always coming up with delicious fusions of flavours with their daily specials.

This restaurant is a must for both young and old, as they have also surprised me with BOGO drink or unWINEd Wednesday drink specials.

“Excellent”

All the food was delicious and perfectly prepared. Dessert menu was great so save some room. Service was first rate. We were entertaining a business contact who wanted something different for dessert and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty. It was great to show him some Maritime hospitality.

My only complaint was that they had live music playing but way too loud. However, when we commented, they immediately addressed the issue.

Location is on South Park Street just off Spring Garden Road.

“Prime Rib”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014

Prime Rib Sunday night. 7pm. Not very busy. Only a couple tables. Had the prime Rib ordered medium rare. It came well done and layed on top of a pile of mashed potatoes. Not a very good meal at all for $26. Im guessing this place is more of a lunch/brunch place and would not recommend it for dinner. The deserts were great. Great location and cool atmosphere. Probably will return and try a cup of coffee and a desert.
