“Very nice stay in a perfect location”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights in this friendly, clean, we'll equipped and nicely located hostel in Halifax. It s just a 5 mins walk to a 24 h supermarket as well as the VIA rail train station and the market. To the waterfront its around 10 mins walk.

Just the wifi connection lacks a bit and it can get super warm I the room "Ghana", if too many people do their laundry on a anyway warm day.

Absolutely worth to stay.

I recently stayed here for 3 nights. The place feels very homey being as it was, a large home prior to being a hostel. The location is quite good, close to a grocery store, 2 blocks from the harbour and a short walk to downtown shopping and entertainment. The walk from the airport bus drop off is quite long however, but this is more the fault of the bus than the hostel. My 6 bed dorm room was large and had plenty of storage, and was also well ventilated/cooled. The lockers were also more than large enough. The beds themselves were comfortable enough. The bathrooms were also spacious and clean and I like the private toilet/shower stalls, well thought out. Service at check in/out was prompt and friendly, like a lot of hostels there are way too many petty and sometimes obvious rules to read through but I guess this keeps everything working correctly it's just one of the annoying features of hosteling! I liked the comfy and quiet back rooms (one a tv room and one a reading room). My only complaint from my stay was the Internet connection is lame, at the front and downstairs there is one wifi network which works fine but doesn't reach anywhere to the rooms, and in my room a different wifi network which was comically slow and intermittent in connecting. Without that small issue I would have given 5 stars

Room Tip: The dorm rooms seem really spacious so you're not crowding each other at all so stick to the no...

I got the room # and everything at the front desk but my bed was taken by somebody else when I went in. The front desk girl moved all this guest's stuff to another bed that she was supposed to take and made a notice that "you have to take your bed #" They have a strict rule that you "must" use the bed # that's given to you specifically.
Everything was great, the shower, washroom, kitchen and location.
But the nights I stayed became suuuuuuuuuper hot and the room didn't have anything.
I wouldn't be greedy to have A/C since it's a hostel but we wanted at least a fan...
It was on Barrington St and people were talking really loud outside until 3:00am-ish and my bed was right by the window that needed to be open because of the crazy heat inside.
So I really didnt get to sleep at all even with my ear plugs or iPod...
I hardly stay at hotel when I travel. I'd never had such a bad sleep at any hostels I ever stayed in the past.
Too bad it was a good hostel...

A really excellent Hostel. Very friendly helpful staff who upgraded us for free from a double room to a family when they saw we had a small baby with us. Its a vibrant buzzing place (so not necessarily relaxing) and has a really good range of communal spaces where you can people. No breakfasts served but the kitchen is the best hostel kitchen i have ever seen and worth the excellent rating of this review on its own. Locationis good, and the proximity to the station made perfect for a stop off prior to getting the train.

Room Tip: Family rooms at back of ground floor were easy to get to and quiet.

Location of this hostel is very good. It's only 2 minutes away from a superstore and a few more minutes away from the shopping disctrict. (walking) There's a bus stop nearby and there is a shuttle bus that takes you to the airport for 3.25$. A taxi will cost 65$.

The rooms are clean. Beds are clean. You can ask for new towels and bed sheets when needed. Wifi is free within the building, and if your device has a strong wi-fi receiver you may even have internet in your room. There is a tv in the living room with LOTS of videos. There are 2 computers you can use, but you'll have to pay a dollar. The bathrooms are small but clean. You can use washing machines for payment as well. There are about 8 electric sockets for you to charge your devices.

The staff is nice and helpful. They will print directions for you if you want to go somewhere and they give you a map of the city when you arrive. Make sure you have an extra 5 dollars cash with you because you won't get the key to your room for free! If you don't have 5 dollars cash, you will have to hand in something like a passport / ID / driver's license so think of that! You can always trade later of course.

The lockers in the room do not have a lock. You have to bring one yourself. Don't forget!

Room Tip: You don't get to choose a room, but the basement is very cool (as in cold).

Great heritage house turned hostel with free breakfast. Came for a week and stayed for months.....

Central location, close to literally everything Halifax has to offer. Staff is helpful and nice - even up for a beer or two on occasion. A place to call home while away....
