“bathrooms...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

Ate here before the reno's and it was great, however the second time was far less then great...
We were seated next to the washrooms, which smelled like they hadn't been cleaned in a few days..
The table was also not cleaned. The food was nothing special. Soggy agadashi, and the sushi was very bland. (frozen fish?)
The waiter was very friendly.
All and all is was a disappointing evening and I don't know if we'll be back.

“Bad start...yields overall abysmal dining experience”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

Too bad the front line is inept when it comes to customer awareness. We will probably never eat here again. There seemed such a misconnect between the quality of food presentation and timing for food coming out of the kitchen, as well as an overall lack of regard for how the front line action actually does affect the customer experience and dining satisfaction. When told we could be seated without a reservation at a table that had a 1 hour time limit, due to the pending arrival of someone who had a reservation, I inquired why we might need to know that information. Either they could accommodate us, or they could not. I suggested we leave, but my dining partner suggested we did have an hour and wanted to stay. We were seated at a table for 2. The first thing the waitress did, was remind us that someone was coming with a reservation at 6:30. (Sounded like a reprimand...and the very close quarters to the next table within earshot felt embarrassing, as though we had somehow tried to beat the system and needed reminding.) Again I suggested leaving, but was encourage to stay by my hungry son.
We then started consciously watching the clock for our entire order and meal ...that was NOT served in a timely manner, rather haphazardly, and entirely out of our control. How is it that we be expected to have this type of dining experience and find it acceptable? We were put in a situation that we did not want in the first place and we were made to feel less than a customer. I should have respected my first notion to leave, as the staff is out of touch with some aspects of their business, ie. the customer.
Although my food was served in a timely manner (miso seafood soup, and delicious sweet potato mango roll), my son's chicken soba noodles ordered, came as seafood, and had to be reordered, with only 10 minutes remaining to eat, in our given time? He felt compelled to eat under duress, and we both felt stressed. We were going to get the dish 'to go', but could not get the attention of our waiter. My son ended up 'hoovering' his meal (fishy tasting? chicken noodles), leaving half, and we donned our coats to recieve our bill, as the obvious reservation holding customers, and an obviously familiar milieu of front line staff gave us the once over, like the criminals we were, for having stepped inside the restaurant door in the first place. Someone needs to rethink a few things here.

“My Neighbourhood Sushi --we are regulars!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

A very busy spot, but they will take a reservation. Staff very friendly but food prep can be slow. Interesting selection of sushi with a lot of specialty rolls that are very good. Try Paris Roll, or Atlantic Fire Roll. Both are very good.

You get 10% discount for paying cash! Was there once for lunch and was very disappointed in my bento box. I would not go there again for the bento box--there are better options in Halifax.

“Excellent lunch place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

Wasabi House is a small restaurant in the Quinpool Road dining strip. The bento boxes are very good for lunch. They offer a variety of choices, with or without sushi. Everything has been tasty in several visits. The value is excellent, with large portions for around $10. The place is busy at lunch, so come early. The restaurant can be very warm in summer and cool in winter, but it is worth it.

“great rolls but sashimi not the best”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

This little restaurant serves a large variety of sushi dishes. The rolls were interesting and not standard fare. The ones that we tried (two types of Mango roll) were quite good. But the sashimi was of low quality and portion size was generally a little too big to eat comfortably. The squid was warm and slimy. The fish was less flavourful than better sushi restaurants but the price was still on the higher side. The service was slow but friendly. The items that we ordered were incorrect but they were replaced with the correct orders and the incorrect items were left with us which was appropriate and nice.
