The Harbour Bar and Grill is located in Halifax in the Delta Hotel Halifax Nova Scotia. Frankly the hotel is just another chain operation which everyone sees all over the world, comfortable but without any discernible character. This restaurant however, offers a dinner experience that is really quite lovely. (To be fair the morning menu offers the usual pedestrian stuff, it is in the evening it shines.) All the food is good but the seafood dishes are of an extremely high quality, particularly the blackened scallops and the Caesar salad (ok Caesar salid is not a seafood dish but it was one of the best Caesars my wife and I ever tasted) and one evening we had a little salmon mousse appetizer that more then melted in the mouth. I think it was the just the right level of lemon zest and capers that took it from the ordinary to the sublime. The servers are friendly, genuinely so, and offer just the amount of chit chat to make you feel connected but not patronized. Originally we visited the place a couple of nights running and then went off enjoying the Nova Scotia environs for another four. On our last evening before we left Halifax we tried it again. As we enjoyed our salads and some excellent array of breads a couple of our previous servers drifted over to our table engaging us in stories of what we had done and how we had enjoyed ourselves. It felt like meeting old friends, some of the most down to earth conversation outside of Ireland. A lovely restaurant whether one stays at the hotel or not.
