Cozy atmosphere, not overly loud, bar seating and booths, also a patio in warmer weather. Service is okay: friendly, but not overly attentive or quick. Food is good, pretty good prices, okay portions, well-cooked, and decent wait-time. Its pretty much all pub food, though, so you've got to be in the mood for it. Drinks are a bit pricey, but really good selection; Swedish Berry is good, and the Gummy Worm. Both seem a bit heavy on the alcohol though, weren't very smooth. Caesar is one of the best in town and generous.

Had the 'sizzling shrimp' most recently: shrimp (tails still on.. grr) swimming in garlic butter, warm but not hot. Partner had a burger which he liked (recommend any burgers)
It's not my cup of tea (eatery/sportsbar mix), but have had two good lunches here. Will likely return with friends for a quick meal.

I had lunch there recently and while it was okay, I wouldn't rush back. Our server didn't know what the lunch special was nor could he talk about what was in the fish chowder. I chose the chowder, almost a guarantee in this city of a lovely dish. Wrong. It was like something I'd get in Ontario. Not bad but certainly not up to the fresh, briney quality found elsewhere.

In some parts of Atlantic Canada, we borrow the UK phrase "the local" to refer to the local pub, the spot where regular working men & women gather at the end of the day for a drink with staff who know them by name. ("I'm going the the local for a pint.") It's not expensive or pretentious; it's a comfortable place where you can sit, alone or with friends, unwinding after a long day. Finding such a pub in a strange town, especially in a tourist district, is challenging. If you are lucky enough to find one, you tell others.

The Fickle Frog is such a place. In the heart of busy Spring Garden Road, it offers reasonably-priced beer and a decent pub food menu (we did not try the food, but it looked good and the patrons who ordered seemed satisfied). We enjoyed a few pints with a pleasant bar staff in a very nice environment (beautiful art covers the walls). This is the sort of place where a local will hear you comment on that art, and politely strike up a conversation to tell you all about it.

If you find yourself in this part of Halifax looking to unwind in a pleasant environment for a few hours, or looking for a good slice of pizza or some scallops. I recommend it.

For pub food the Ficle Frog offers a great seafood chowder to go with typical pub food selections. The food and service were excellent on both my stops at this pub!
