We went for our anniversary because my finacee has never been to the museum. We had a ball. We got to see a great white shark jaw and learned a lot. We did wish that there was a but more to look at but it was very layed out and there was a lot to see and do. Thanks for making our anniversery a great one

“Out of this World Exhibit... that's about it.”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

This museum is TINY! We went for the Out of this World Exhibit, which was super cool - lots of comic-related movie props and cool vintage, nerdy artifacts.

Other than that, there is another small exhibit with aboriginal items, some reptiles, bees... I didn't get it.

“Favorite Museum in Halifax”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

We went to the Museum knowing that there was a special exhibit on. Last year we got to see a T-Rex and this year it was movie costumes. The special exhibit was great but what was more wonderful was the permanent exhibits. The exhibits give you a look at Nova Scotian history from animals and plants to the people. We enjoyed learning about various sea life and loved looking at all the animals. The live bee hive is something that drew our attention as we spent time looking for the queen bee with no luck. The highlight of our trip to the Museum was Gus the turtle who recently turned 90 years old. I have been going to the Museum for over 30 years and he is always the highlight.

“Natural History”

Interesting but I expected to see more fauna and flora. There should be more explanations about the displays.....some had none!

“Hollywood in Nova Scotia! Wicked!”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

OK, so it is hard to rate this place, because there are so many different exhibits here, and because it is hard to seperate the exhibits from the facility itself, but here goes. The staff are excellent and really take the time to explain things to visitors, particularly children. The price is reasonable as well. the taxidermy exhibits are good quality, well-lit, and both the animal and its name are easy to see. The worst thing about the place is its location. It is too close to downtown, so parking is a nightmare. The lot is tiny, and we had to circle it several times waiting for someone to leave the museum so we could nab their spot. Downtown Halifax is not a place for a fun family museum like this, because it is too much of a hassle to park. We almost didn't go because of this. However, the kids really enjoyed meeting the tortoise, Gus. The best thing about the place was a temporary exhibit they had on display for summer 2012 of Hollywood costumes. It has nothing to do with natural history, but any chance to get such a collection in Canada is worthwhile, as it rivals most costume exhibits I saw when touring actual Hollywood attractions! If you are a sci-fi fan, you will be in heaven here! They even have a Darth Vader costume from the Star Wars trilogy!!
