“Amazing location!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2009

Went for a weekend wedding and needed something near the venue. What a great location!!!!! My spouse and I were able to walk to all the tourist attractions. We walk at a reasonable pace and it only took us about 10-15 minutes max to reach the harbourfront. Strolling along the harbourfront is really nice and ,without getting tired, we strolled from Pier 21 down to the Casino stopping along the way at all the various historical points of interest (my hubbie likes to read any plaque that's around). No worries either about choice of restaurants & coffee shops- all again literally around the corner from the hotel.
Room was on the small side (who stays in their rooms on vacation anyway?), clean, and the staff were friendly & helpful.

We had the occasion to visit Halifax earlier this year and stayed at the historic Lord Nelson (just filled with atmosphere). The location couldn't have been better - within walking distance to the best restaurants, great shopping and a stroll to the harbour.
The people / staff were not only accommodating but as nice as could be. Made us feel right at home.
We will definitely be going back and we would highly recommend the beautiful Lord Nelson.

I recently stayed at The Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Amazing lobby ... but my room was ridiculously small! I couldn't believe it! One double bed cramped in the smallest room I ever stayed! Can't see the window from pretty much anywhere in the room wich faces a wall! The best part of this hotel is the bathroom amenities! Aveda product. I would recommend this hotel... but I would definetly ask for a different room!

My wife and I stayed at the Lord Nelson for three days in early June, 2009. The purpose of my trip was a business meeting. (my wife only stayed one night. We spent a week prior, touring Nova Scotia).
The Hotel is a typical North American better qualty establishement.
- very clean
- very nice, friendly and helpful staff
- plenty of shiny brass
- free A.M. coffee in the lobby , a bowl of apples and a bowl of candy at the reception desk
- well furnished clean rooms, with plasma T,V
- lots of amenities in clean bathroom
- has a mediocre business center
- has a well equipped gym; however, the Universl gym requires repair
- it is an older hotel, therefore not equipped to handle large conferences
- great location: it is across the street from the Public Gardens (Canada's oldest park),
and one short block from the Citadel. We spent five hoursat the Citadel

HINT. Ensure that you get a room not facing the front or side (Spring Garden Rd.) There are a lot of noisy motorcycles in Halifax

Overall my stay was very good. The location was perfect. I was visiting friends and being right on Spring Garden made it easy to go out for food and around. There are numerous bus stops to go to MicMac or Mumford mall right outside the door.
I do reccomend eating in town as opposed to the Victory Pub - the atmosphere and quality of food was not great for hotel prices. But there are many choices right next door and on spring garden.
I had a college rate code and received a discounted price - so for what I paid everything was fairly adaquate. However if I were to have paid more, say their best available rates, I probably would have been quite disappointed.
Walking into the lobby its very beautiful; however I believe they are going through renovations and the hallway was quite dim. Housekeeping staff was very friendly - satying for mulitple nights i didnot need housekeeping everyday, but they always offered to refresh my towels, glasses, etc...

Booked the parlour suite and the romance package. First problem was they gave me the wrong room. That was fixed promptly. However for 300/night the parlour suite is extremely disappointing. The bathroom was the size of a closet, no jacuzzi, the fireplace hardly put out any heat. The traffic noise was terrible at night as other reviews have said when you have a room facing the public gardens. Oh and by 'chocolates' in the romance package, they mean 2 lindor truffles. Dont think i'll be staying there again, value is just not there compared to other places and the place is too old. The victory arms pub is pathetic ... slow service, horrible food, my potatoes came still frozen ... place needs a serious revamp. Oh and I still have not heard back from management after I left a bad review and wanted to be contacted.

Beautiful old building with interesting architecture. Room was small but nicely set-up. Bed was comfortable. Staff were very friendly and always helpful.
