“Charming historic inn in downtown Halifax”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

The Waverley Inn in downtown Halifax is a charming, historic B&B style hotel, much to be preferred to the typical large chain hotels for the visiting tourist. The 1866 Victorian mansion has been a hotel since 1876, and has been renovated and modernized, although with no elevator there are a lot of stairs to negotiate. The breakfast room in the basement is particularly inconvenient. The lobby and halls are full of beautiful antiques, as are the rooms. The only serious drawback for us was the diminutive room, and especially the bathroom, which was so small you could hardly turn around. Like most historic renovations, there was no counter space in the bathroom, with the pedestal sink. The furniture of our “traditional” room was nice, with excellent bedding, but there was only one chair and the windows were small. I guess you have to work with the building you have, but it would probably be worth the extra cost to book one of the larger rooms. The location is perfect, and it is an easy walk to the Citadel and the harbour waterfront. There is free parking and Internet, with two computers in the lobby. We lucked out in getting tickets (half price, even!) to the world-famous Halifax International Tattoo, which was phenomenal, even better, in my opinion, than the Tattoo in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Waverley Inn is in the perfect location for a trip to Halifax. It was within walking distance to everything we wanted to do and we felt save walking the area after dark. The Inn was charming and offered private parking off the street. The staff was very nice and our room was clean and cool. After a hot day walking in Halifax, it was nice to return to a room with a clean shower and air conditioning. Our room was on the third floor and there was no elevator; but, it was worth the climb. I highly recommend the Waverley Inn!

Room Tip: Find out the history of the Inn prior to making your reservations. There are several rooms with inte...

If you love the charm of a quaint B&B, The Waverly is for you. It was more than comfortable and clean and the staff could not have been more hospitable. They recommended great places for dinner and were attentive to our needs.
The location is very near the waterfront and the parking is free, secure behind the building and abundant.
I would stay here again and would request a ground floor room since the mansion has no elevator. Overall, a great experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room if you have trouble negotiating stairs with heavy luggage.

Beautifully restored and kept Victorian mansion. Rooms are all different with their own charm. Rooms are very well appointed. Good location in Halifax and you can walk to almost all the sites and very close to the waterfront and Via station. It is an old property and has many stairs, if mobility an issue ask for a room on a lower floor (no elevator) We had the Oriental room which was just fantastic, one of the most interesting and beautiful rooms we have stayed in on all of our travels around the world. We will stay here again on our next trip to Halifax.

Room Tip: All rooms are different and have their own charm. Our room was incredible "The Oriental Room&qu...

Very conveniently located close to the waterfront and the citadel only minutes walk. We stayed several nights and really enjoyed ourselves. Place is very quiet and rooms small yet comfortable. Breakfast is no frills continental but plenty of choices also in the nearby restaurants. Very worthwhile stay!

Room Tip: Stayed on the second floor, room was quite nicely equipped but small.

I had very high expectations for this Inn due to what I had read overall however, our group felt it was very average and even tired. Perhaps we were there at an off time but in our 2 day stay if we asked a question we were answered but other than that we felt unwelcome. I don't need someone all up in my business, but a pleasant greeting would have gone a long way to make us feel like it was nice to have us staying at the Inn. It was Canada Day and you would not have known it, I say that only to add the next B&B we stayed at greeted us with a Canada Day welcome and cupcakes and lemonade on the lawn.
Perhaps the busyness contributed to the lack of prepared food and I will not go into that but simply put I was disappointed in our experience at the Waverley.
