“Nice Hotel (pet friendly) in a good location”
Reviewed July 1, 2013 via mobile

First visit to Halifax, the hotel is located not far from the harbour & next to the town clock & citadel. The twin room was a good size & included a fridge, coffee machine but "no safe". The Concierge was very friendly & helpful with what to do & were to visit providing maps & directions. We hired a car for a few days & parked in the hotel car park but were not informed by the hotel there was a daily charge of $22 until we checked out. When we queried this the hotel removed the charge. Overall the hotel was comfortable & well placed but in a busy location.

I've always wanted to visit Nova Scotia so my husband took me as a surprise for our anniversary. Despite having terrible weather, we are already really enjoying our time and have received fabulous service from the staff at this hotel. We were greeted with a fruit plate to acknowledge our anniversary and the staff were all super friendly. Great rooms - one complaint though is the outlets must be old because we had to hold things in place (eg cell phone charger ) or else they'd fall out of the outlet. I like the soap dispensers in the washroom way more than the standard individual bottles/soaps. Nice to have a keurig coffee machine with real milk/cream too! Nice to have a fridge as well. The hotel could for sure use some updates but it's clean and nice. The gym leaves a little to be desired - it was usually packed and the machines were old. Pool could be a little warmer but it was still fine.

We just spent three days and two nights at the Prince George Hotel in downtown Halifax. It is just a couple of blocks up from the wharf - and has plenty of great restaurants near by. We booked a deluxe king suite with a separate living room which was divided from the bedroom by a set of sliding pocket doors that had frosted glass. The doors provided excellent insulation from any sound coning from the living room. The room included two bathrooms and a small refrigerator. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The valet parking was very convenient and the bed was very comfortable. The room included free WiFI and the bandwidth was reasonable - +2mbs.

Room Tip: The Deluxe King Suites do not have a view of the harbor.

We stayed 2 nights at the Prince George on our first-ever visit to Halifax. We chose a package with free parking and a $25 dining credit for each night, which we used for breakfast. Though it didn't cover breakfast for the two of us, the buffet and breakfast menu were terrific. Staff were very welcoming and helpful; the room was impeccably clean, comfy beds and pillows. We were happy to park in the hotel garage formthe duration and easily walk to all sights. Halifax is hilly and the hotel just by the Citadel. Unless you enjoy and evening uphill climb, check out the pubs and restaurants in vicinity. In addition to hotel's Gio restaurant, there are many options on nearby Argyle Street, which has lots of outdoor seating for warm weather.

My wife and I just returned from a 9 day trip to the Maritimes. For our last night we decided to treat ourselves and stay in the heart of downtown Halifax. We booked a hotel "blindly" through Expedia and got a really good rate for the Prince George. You book a hotel based on it's "star" rating and location and don't know what hotel you are getting until after you book it. It was fun and we got a really nice room for about 50% off the going rate.
Parking is extra at the Prince George....$22 plus tax for underground parking.
The hotel is quite nice......clean, quiet and comfortable. The big plus of course is it's location. A very short walk to the waterfront and many restaurants and shops. You never need to move your car. If you have a problem walking up hills, you may want to consider another hotel. Quite a steep walk from the waterfront and boardwalk.
We really enjoyed our stay there. As I said, the room was great and the staff were terrific.

- we stayed here two nights in late June 2013. Generally speaking, it's one of the nicest hotels we've stayed in. Here's some pros and cons;
Pros;
- very friendly staff. When we arrived (around 10:00pm) a doorman greeted us and offered to unload the car of our suitcases, offered some restaurant suggestions and told us that parking was available for $22.00 (plus tax). He said we could park in the street for free but we'd have to start feeding the meter by 8:00 am the next morning if we didn't want to get a parking ticket. Unfortunately, I didn't get there in time and did in fact get a parking ticket. However, if you pay it within 7 days, it's only $20, about $5 cheaper than the hotel's rate!
- actual real cream in the room fridge for coffee.
- very comfortable bed
- I liked the shampoo and conditioner dispenser in the bathroom. No need to open up small bottles.
- cordless phone in room
- very quiet
- good wifi
Cons;
- the coffee maker in the room didn't work right away. I called the front desk and they sent someone up immediately and, although it took a few tries, he was able to make it work. However the coffee that it produced was lukewarm. So I went down to the lobby where there was a coffee dispenser there, but it also was lukewarm. I mentioned this to one of the staff behind the front desk and they quickly offered to get me a coffee from the dining-room which was hot (and good as well).
- TV is very small and the resolution is poor.
- very little pressure on the cold water faucet.

Stayed in this hotel for one night last weekend. Got a really good deal with Hotwire so could not go wrong!! Well located hotel for downtown attractions of Halifax. Parking was easy to locate and was a better bet than street parking on a weekend. We did not try the restaurant at the hotel as too many eating options in the area. Room was clean and well laid out but would not say it was any better than any other 4 star hotel that we have stayed in, in Halifax. Bathroom was snug but well maintained. All of the staff that we came into contact with were very friendly, polite and efficient.
If you can get a good price on this hotel would certainly recommend it for a place to stay in downtown.
