The movie and exhibits gave a nice overview of the many groups who came to Canada through Halifax, and some of the challenges they faced. Beautiful setting, nicely laid out, and the guides were entertaining as well as informative.

This was walking distance from the Westin Hotel where we were staying. I was anxious to visit this Immigration Museum because my ancestors immigrated here from Bern, Switzerland. The young man that helped us had quite a bit of knowledge and photo copied a page that we needed. He also gave us a website to explore more fully when we return home. All in all, I found it to be a nice museum with a conscientious staff.

This is a terrific museum which highlights immigrants arriving in Canada. Both the tour and the half hour movie are informative and well done. Give yourself lots of time to listen to the individual video recordings. If you a relative who arrived at Pier 21, it is also worth your while to visit the archives to see what you can find.

As we were spending a last night in Halifax we had some time before the Pier closed, it was well done interesting and well within walking distance for visitors to downtown Halifax.

The museum is not large and when I first walked in I was worried we'd paid too much for what was there. But as we proceeded though the exhibits it became clear that the museum was primarily presenting an oral history of immigration. To get the most out of the exhibits you need to listen to the stories they tell (sometimes you need to push the buttons more then once to hear all the stories). The movie was also very moving.

This museum is very close to the cruse ship terminal making it a easy stop if that is how you are arriving in Halifax.
