We were here on a weekday and the museum was not very busy. There was a function being held on site but it did not interrupt our seeing the museum. The staff here are all extremely friendly and seem to have a genuine interest in history and genealogy.
We started by reviewing the exhibits quickly on our own and then we joined a guided tour that took about an hour. Our guide had been volunteering at the museum since it opened in 1999 and he had lots of knowledge to share. After the tour we went to the family research center on the first floor and my boyfriend was able to get information about his grandparents who came to Canada from Scotland in the 1920's. Even though the information he had received from his family wasn't entirely correct, the lady was able to find the records of their crossing within minutes. For a small fee she printed everything out for him including a picture of the ship they sailed on. It was very exciting for him to be able to find that piece of his family history.
I strongly recommend a visit for anyone who may have had family come through the pier.
