“Amazing Facility!!”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

We were here on a weekday and the museum was not very busy. There was a function being held on site but it did not interrupt our seeing the museum. The staff here are all extremely friendly and seem to have a genuine interest in history and genealogy.

We started by reviewing the exhibits quickly on our own and then we joined a guided tour that took about an hour. Our guide had been volunteering at the museum since it opened in 1999 and he had lots of knowledge to share. After the tour we went to the family research center on the first floor and my boyfriend was able to get information about his grandparents who came to Canada from Scotland in the 1920's. Even though the information he had received from his family wasn't entirely correct, the lady was able to find the records of their crossing within minutes. For a small fee she printed everything out for him including a picture of the ship they sailed on. It was very exciting for him to be able to find that piece of his family history.

I strongly recommend a visit for anyone who may have had family come through the pier.

“Definitely worth seeing”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Let me first say that we didn't have a huge amount of time here as we were trying to get to a number of places. That said, the museum is fascinating and informative and is a lot easier to get around than, say, Ellis Island. I have relatives who came to the US through Halifax, and the research staff there were especially deserving of mention. They were friendly and eager to help even with the meager bit of information I was able to give them to work with. Don't miss this museum if you're in town.

“Great visit to look at the History”

This Museum shows the names on New Canadians who immigrated to Canada by sea. There are bricks in a wall with the names of the immigrants. Great to view and see if your relatives settled in Canada through this location. Good displays and artifacts.

Helps understand the importance of immigration to Canada. The realisation that my father and uncle had left Canada to fight in WWII at this pier was pretty emotional;

“Here because of a John Wort Hannam song!”

Stopped in here because of the amazing song by John Wort Hannam and was completely impressed by the tour, the film and just the experience overall. You must listen to the song!
