We happened to visit he Citadel on the weekend when it wasn't open; however, you are still able to walk the compound freely. We were amazed at how well preserved this site is and can't wait to visit again when it is open and we can take advantage of the museum and historical re-enactments. Great views of the city and easy to get to. A little difficult to get to interior with young children and a stroller. There may have been elevator access in one of the other entries but we did not go during open hours. Also, strollers are not allowed on top of catwalk and navigating with young children is difficult. Bring jackets, hats and gloves if going in the late fall, early winter - it get's very windy at the top of Halifax!
