“Nice getaway - Birth year promo”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

My wife and I took advantage of their birth year special; pay regular rate for the 1st night, then pay your birth year for all remaining nights of your stay. Very nice, stylish hotel or you can select small cabin for your stay.

We just got back from a stay at the Digby Pines, and I'd just like to say that customer service is alive and well at this resort!!!! If you had forgotten what it was like to be treated well, with super friendly staff, that are willing to help and speak with you, you should probably stay here! Staff was awesome. Resort is awesome, and I would highly recommend it. Big thank you's to everyone here at the Pines. They were awesome!

We wandered up the drive to have a look on our way by, interested in 'old hotels', and came back a week later for the night before the early ferry to St. John. Arriving at 4PM, I managed to get a massage appt for 5, he managed a relaxing swim in the heated pool, followed by an absolutely well done delicious inventive locally sourced dinner. All at an astonishingly reasonable cost! And the bed: the bed was the most comfortable I have encountered traveling, seriously. Bravo.
Eat from the breakfast buffet (real oatmeal? seriously? I'm excited!) if heading to the ferry, otherwise you don't REALLY have time.

Room Tip: I would heartily recommend the extra $ for water view. Get up as high as you can, to view Digby tow...

From the check in to the check out on Sunday our stay was delightful. We rented a cottage for 2 nights and had a peaceful, comfortable stay. Our music conference went smoothly with help from the Pines staff. Our room was timely made up and a slight repair was handled efficiently. Each evening a fire was laid in the fireplace of our cottage, making it very comfortable. This is the 4th year for having our High C's convention at the Pines and hopefully there will be many more.

Be watchful when you book under the limited time offers for this hotel. You may not be receiving the savings that you would have expected based on the ad. The ad read up to 50% off, but when we compared our confirmed price to the current listed price, it was only a savings of 15% . We booked the king room with the bay view, mid week in the month of May (off season). The price for this room at the time of the "limited time offer" booking offer was $202 before tax which included a full breakfast. We were quoted $124, so we booked the room. However, the price that we received for the room did not include the breakfast. When you add breakfast of $32 to the room rate, it came to $156 before tax. However once the "limited time offer" period expired, the same room for the same booking period, including breakfast, went down to $185. Based on the advertisement and given that we booked mid week for May (off season), we would have expected saving closer to 40% off, or even 30% off. We did not receive the savings that we expected, which made us feel a bit cheated in the process.

My husband and I spent a couple of days at the Pines this past weekend with our 10 year old daughter. The grounds are simply gorgeous as you drive up. Front desk staff very polite and had us checked in promptly. We stayed in a king room overlooking the Annapolis Basin which was a beautiful view to wake up to!

The food and restaurant staff (especially Bria) was excellent. My oysters could not have been fresher! The home cut fries were delicious. The complimentary breakfast was the best I've ever had...eggs benny, fish cakes and chow, beans, bread pudding, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon/sausage/ham, a variety of fresh fruit and yogurt and breads.

We went both nights to the marshmallow roast which we all thoroughy enjoyed. There was a beautiful fire tended to by staff which marshmallows and sticks. My daughter loved this.

We did not use the pool, even though it was heated was still too chilly for us! Beautiful pool area and we had a tour of the spa by the manager who was most gracious.

I gave four stars because it was quite noisy in our room in the morning when a fellow guest was using the shower...I guess that's probably par for the course with a grand old hotel.

We had a fantastic weekend and will not hesitate to come back again!

We just realized that we haven't written our review on the Digby Pines yet. Here it is.
This is a Grand Hotel in the true sense of words. You will find the feeling of an era gone by, and once in a while it is lovely to experience it. Sure, rooms- especially bathrooms- are different from what we are used to in this modern age, but all functioned well, was clean and authentic. The bed we found to be very comfy. The grounds are lovely to walk in. The view over the bay is breathtaking. This hotel is very close to the little town of Digby.
We used the Spa and found it to be a peaceful, pleasant experience. Sitting outside to relax, you can hear...Nature. So quiet.
While our experience with dinner was nice (it was their last full day of the season), we found the breakfast absolutely fantastic. Chef Dale and his baker do an amazing job, not to be missed. Those croissants...oh, and the danishes...delish! A must-do.

Room Tip: Definitely with a view of the Bay!
