We stayed in the Felicity cottage and absolutely adored the privacy, peacefulness and beautiful view. Waking up to only the sound of the ocean and birds singing was a wonderful experience for these city dwellers. Don't be put off by the idea of running the generator for power. It was only necessary for short periods of time and starts with the push of a button. There is a barbecue on the private gazebo which was very convenient. We enjoyed our frequent walks down by the shore. It was an easy drive to go whale watching from Long Island & a short drive back to Digby for groceries and the ferry to St. John.

My husband and I stayed for a week in Aug. and could have stayed all summer.
Linda and Dave were great!
I had my 50th birthday while there and was greeted with a birthday card and bottle of wine. We also enjoyed a bonfire down ay the beach. A preaty nice way to slip into 50.
The cabin was spotless and well equiped, comfy bed, lots of hot water.
We went through a little tv with drawals at night,but the morning sunrise more then madeup for that.
The view was outstanding, we saw seals in the bay
great birding also, humming birds, loons and many ducks and sea gauls
the water was majical, the St. Mary's Bay tide is remarkable , a true wounder.
the fog did not disapoint, {thick as pea soup}
the local lobster and seafood has no comparacin, sitting out at the picnic table
and dipping lobster in garlic butter wathcing seals- it does not get better then that!
Dave & Linda's hopitality was A1, I don't know if family could make you feel as welcome
We are back home in Ontario now but I think we left our hearts in Digby
We would recomend Graham Retreat to our family and friends
I just hope that they are not all booked up next year

Absolutely wonderful spot run by friendly helpful people. The noise of the propane generator takes a bit of getting used to - you don't have power and silence, and the track requires a sturdy vehicle. But you get dolphins/porpoises swimming just yards away and total peace.

These beautiful cottages sit atop the hills alongside St. Mary's Bay, offering awe-inspiring views. You get the sense that you are the only cottage on the property-very secluded. From our deck we saw humpback whales, harbour porpoises, seals and sea-birds. These sightings were occasionally interupted by cute little rabbits scurrying through the yard! The interior of the cottage is beautiful-knotty pine, fireplace, big cozy beds and a fully appointed kitchen with all modern amenities, the exception being a television, which was fine with us as the views from our deck were better than any TV show! You can stroll down to the beach, have a bon fire (fire pit and wood is provided) or go beachcombing. The proprietors (Dave and Linda) are wonderful down to earth people who make sure you have everything you need-they truly go ABOVE and BEYOND expectations! I can honestly not think of one downside for us personally. I suppose some may not like the thought of no TV, and running everything on propane, solar or generator, but for us that made the experience all the more memorable. If you are travelling anywhere near Digby NS and want magnificent, secluded, beautifully rustic accomodations then Grahams Pioneer retreat is a MUST! I am not just saying that, it is the truth!

There are not enough words to adequately convey how absolutely BEAUTIFUL Graham's Pioneer Retreat is. The cabin we stayed in (Tranquility) is closest to the pebble beach and provided breathtaking views of the ocean. We were fortunate enough to be sitting on our deck and see both a seal frolicking in the water....then the following morning a dolphin doing the same. The cabin itself is magical - hardwood throughout with little "country" touches that make it feel so homey you never want to leave. I LOVED the fact that it ran on a generator - we were supplied with LED lights to get around - but found it much more romantic to light the many candles around the cabin for atmosphere. The stove, fridge and fireplace all ran on propane - we only ever needed to use the push button generator to have showers in the morning. The propane fireplace on the deck provided us the opportunity to cook some of the area's finest produce (mussels, haddock and fresh corn on the cob), and enjoy it while taking in the breathtaking scenery. We then meandered down to the shared firepit on the beach where we met some of the other guests and shared a few laughs. They stayed for a short while - then we were able to enjoy the fire by ourselves - and listen to the waves crashing 20 feet away. Our hosts, Dave and Linda were 2 of the most down-to-earth people you can ever hope to meet-we only hope that next time we visit (and there will most DEFINITELY be a next time) we can spend more time with them. This spot offers the best of both worlds - you can have a quiet, romantic getaway and not see another soul if you choose - or it would be the perfect place for a group of friends/couples to get together and have a wonderful time. Either way, Graham's Pioneer Retreat cannot be beat.
