If you go up to Cape Breton and are doing the Cabot Trail for the first time, then I would suggest this to be a must-do hike. It is not a difficult hike but the scenery is absolutely spectacular. Make sure you take the loop rather than going back the same way. We hiked the trail in a clock-wise fashion. The latter half of the trail was less traveled and more rocky. We saw a beautiful male moose with giant antlers in the last part of the trail. Highly recommended.

Beautiful view, well worth the hike It took us about an hour to hike out, stayed about half an hour and just under an hour to hike back. Very well used trail.

Oh sure, you can drive through the national park and say you've been there. But until you smell the air, see the trees, and run into a moose lounging in the woods, you've just seen the postcard version. The Skyline Trail allows you all of these opportunities, and brings you to the place where mountains and sky meet ocean. It's a walk, not a hike, but a long one, and it's worth every step!

Hiked this trail about 4 years ago. Planning to head up there again soon. I remember it being a fairly flat groomed trail through a wooded, scrub-land area, coming out to the cliffs at the end. There were wooden boardwalks and stairs partway down the cliff. Bring your camera, the view is spectacular! But be warned, it gets pretty windy up there, so you may not be able to get to the end of the stairs.

if you want to see moose, it is preferable to hike early in the morning or at the end of the day.
