Dragonfly Inn
Ranked #16 of 19 Annapolis Royal B&B and Inns
Reviewed September 26, 2008

Driving into Annapolis Royal, you are immediately struck by the beauty and history all around you in this small corner of the world, but one place that seems to quietly beckon you with comforting whispers of warmth and peace is the Dragonfly Inn.
From the luscious colors of burgandy and greens on the exterior and the looming poplars guarding the Queen Anne style home, you begin to feel enveloped in cashmere.
Cori welcomes everyone as do her friendly dogs, Magnus and Zoe to this magnificent home. She offers both the B&B experience as well as the Coach House Inn experience. Continental breakfast served in the barn-type building was offered to the guests of the Inn and a full, hot breakfast in the dining room is offered for the B&B.
Quiet. Peaceful. Soft. Warm. The room in the Coach House was the most comfortable that I have ever stayed in and a real treat for the eyes with Cori's imaginative use of rich colors and textures. The deck outside the room sits in the upper branches of a poplar tree and flowers cascade over the railing. The grounds are welcoming for a stroll or meditative moments and even seeing Magnus wiggle happily over to greet you gives joy to this lovely little piece of the earth. The energy is just plain good here.
Ahhhh, such a lovely, lovely hug of a place.

The Dragonfly has a great location, a stroll away from all the sights of Annapolis. Our room was nice and clean. A good size, with 2 double beds and space to move about. Breakfast was fine, with unlimited amounts of everything. And if you have a dog, or just adore dogs, this is the place to come, with 2 permanent canine residents and a traffic of guest pooches of all shapes and sizes.

However, we did not like the sliding door to our bathroom - a bit of a ramshackle arrangement. The plumbing itself was not up to scratch. Worst of all, management has an attitude problem. We like to feel like valued guests on vacation...

We stayed four nights at the Dragonfly Inn in August, 2008 for our family reunion. This was a perfect location for a family with dogs and multiple family members staying in different rooms. The Inn is next to a great walking trail for pets and people and is very pet-friendly. The owner, who has two dogs of her own, showed us a number of places to walk dogs and enjoy the scenery. The rooms were extremely clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast muffins, which varied day to day, were delicious!!! The owner and her staff were friendly and very responsive to our multiple requests. The Dragonfly felt like a home away from home. In a town that has many Band B's to choose from, this one met all of our needs.

I agree with the previous reviews in that. the Inn is fabulous and the breakfast was the best we had during our 2 week trip in Nova Scotia. We are experienced B & Bers and have stayed at B & B's around the world, never with an incident. Please take note, the hostess can be very rude and abrupt to the point of insulting. Both my wife and I were belittled (that’s correct) and I told my wife to let the hostess' comments pass, as it was not worth a confrontation on our holiday. If you can put up with a snide comment or more then stay as it is worth it. The hostess seemed very bitter to us....... Please read on as this gets better. We found out why she was bitter the next night. We recounted our story to the next B & B proprietors who said they knew her. Apparently she and her husband bought the place and the husband RAN OFF WITH A GUEST AFTER THE FIRST NIGHT! You can't make this stuff up! I don't know who "Steve" is (from a previous reviewer), but it wasn't her husband. I think this might explain her bitterness. Good luck if you stay with her, you might need it.

We stayed at the Dragonfly for three nights with another couple the 3rd week of June. Cori made our stay very comfortable without being intrusive. The two rooms were very nice and the beds were amazing. If there was any drawback it would be that the front rooms in the coach house face Highway 1, and that can get noisy in the mornings early.
Cori had no problem with a last minute decision to have one of her breakfasts and came up with a menu off the top of her head. Everything is fresh, and locally grown. But whatever you do, don't feed Magnus from the table. He'll never leave you alone.
You can tell that a lot of thought and effort goes into the Dragonfly Inn and you will take a lot away from your stay. Highly reccommended!

This was the perfect place to end our Nova Scotia trip. The town itself is beautiful -- quiet but with just enough shops and eateries to entertain you.

But it was the Dragonfly that made the visit. Our host was friendly and helpful -- and quite a cook, too -- but also gave us plenty of privacy. We had the Sparrow's Loft, which was perfect for out needs.

Highly recommended!

My husband and I stayed at the Dragonfly Inn during a week whirlwind tour of Nova Scotia. Cori, the innkeeper, was warm, friendly, attentive and a wonderful cook. Her breakfasts were amazing and her bedside cookies were to die for. Stop here if you are in the Annapolis Royal area - you won't forget it!
