“Great Reconstruction”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

This is a Canadian Parks reconstruction of the Port-Royal colonization site. There are costumed interpreters that give you a taste for life at the site at the time of the founding. Need about an hour to see the site

“Enjoyable history lesson”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

A very enjoyable stroll through an old trading fort. There are plenty of rooms to roam around and a lot to learn. Nice way to spend a couple of hours and very cheap at less than $4/person.

“Lots of mosquitoes”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

This was closed so we walked around it at dusk. Very interesting even though we couldn't go inside. The mosquitoes were killers though, swarmed in groups. Definitely go during the day

“Fascinating history of early settlement”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

The Port Royal National Historic Site recreation of one of the very earliest European settlements in North America is extremely well done. It is particularly nice to visit because, although it is earlier than either Plymouth of Jamestown, it is little known, thus quiet. We had a very personable and entertaining Mic ma lady tour us through the buildings, with some interesting personal anecdotes of life in a native community.

“Fascinating View of Early Canadian History”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

This is a faithful reconstruction of a French fortress on the actual site of the first European settlement in Canada in the early 1600's. Guides and living history actors made it come alive for us. It didn't take too much imagination to see and feel some of what it must have been like for those early settlers.

We were visiting from outside Canada. For Canadians I would think this would be an essential stop on any tour of Nova Scotia. For the rest of us it was well worth a visit!
