This was closed so we walked around it at dusk. Very interesting even though we couldn't go inside. The mosquitoes were killers though, swarmed in groups. Definitely go during the day

The Port Royal National Historic Site recreation of one of the very earliest European settlements in North America is extremely well done. It is particularly nice to visit because, although it is earlier than either Plymouth of Jamestown, it is little known, thus quiet. We had a very personable and entertaining Mic ma lady tour us through the buildings, with some interesting personal anecdotes of life in a native community.

This is a faithful reconstruction of a French fortress on the actual site of the first European settlement in Canada in the early 1600's. Guides and living history actors made it come alive for us. It didn't take too much imagination to see and feel some of what it must have been like for those early settlers.

We were visiting from outside Canada. For Canadians I would think this would be an essential stop on any tour of Nova Scotia. For the rest of us it was well worth a visit!

Being the first permanent settlement in Canada, this is a must-see for visitors in the area. Great history lesson for our children. It is a small installation, as the site was not vast 400 years ago either. The government has done a great job of recreating the site. It is a quick visit, we were in and out in an hour.

Thanks to the visionaries who first built the habitation and to the latter day visionaries who saw fit to recreate this exceptional fort-trading post in 17th century Canada. We were so fortunate to have time not only to examine that design and the construction detail so methodically re- created, but also to talk to three guides whose knowledge of the era, the life style was extensive. I. Shall long remember my visit.
