Sides & desserts aside, there are 15 items on the menu, none of which are 'starters' or 'entrees' in the traditional sense. Consider them one-size/small-size samples that you can eat in any order, and then keep re-ordering.
"But that sounds like a Tapas Bar" I hear you say.
Yes it does, yet there's no mention of Tapas anywhere. Apparently the idea was copied by the owner from a restaurant in Ottawa.
Fortunately, our foursome was adventurous and we ended up trying - and sharing - 8 of the 15 choices. Every one of them was excellent - with the glaring exception of the calamari, which was undercooked and the batter was wet. There was a pleasant spiciness to the dish, but not enough to mask the failing grade.
I started with the shaved smoked duck prosciutto, and only very reluctantly did I share it! The lamb ragout, though a tiny portion, was absolutely perfect. The chicken pappardelle excellent. The scallops large and perfect.
I'm not a pizza fan, but the two pizza choices were outstanding. The asparagus & mushroom was probably the best pizza I have ever tried - and the pork-belly & apple a close second. Wow.
Every dish was a taste explosion. the ingredients make for a bizarre read, yet they work. Even the vanilla ice cream, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and salt (yes, you read that correctly) works - and deliciously so.
If you're a meat 'n' potatoes guy, or you like your steaks bigger than your hand, or you don't like sharing - don't come here.
You have to be prepared to suspend traditional belief. And for god's sake, share!
PS. the restaurant was NOISY. Hardwood floors, no drapes, wood walls - sound travels. Be prepared to request a different table. But it won't help much.
I debated knocking off a star for the noise & the uegh calamari. In the end I gave them 4.5 stars, and then rounded up :-) We'll be back.
PPS. Make a reservation: we couldn't get in for 6.30, 7 or 7.30 on a warm June Saturday.
