Cooper's Inn is a carefully preserved and very well maintained 18th century house with a contemporary addition that blends well with the historic character of the original home. My wife and I stayed in an upstairs room with a bow-windowed extension, that afforded wonderful views over the garden below, as well as down the waterfront street of historic buildings, and out across the harbor and far up to the mouth of the harbor - spectacular views.
The rooms have been very carefully and attentively restored and converted to comfortable and spacious accommodation for guests, and furnished with wingback chairs, secretary desks that hide flatscreen television sets, comfortable beds and good bedside lighting for reading. The innkeepers go to the extra effort of placing a handwritten note of welcome, along with a small bottle of wine and biscuits in the room for arriving guests.
Breakfast is served at separate tables in the downstairs dining room, and offers a wide variety of choices. The fruit platters, as well as the bacon and eggs dishes we ordered, were beautifully prepared and presented by the friendly innkeepers, along with a plunger pot of coffee, that was cheerfully re-filled.
Cooper's Inn deserves great praise for its outstanding ambience and comfort and for its wonderful location on the historic waterfront of Shelburne.
I regard it as a model for what a small inn in a historic area should be - and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: request upstairs room at front ( in original house, overlooking garden and waterfront

We rolled up in windy light rain without a reservation. The Inn Keeper welcomed us as if we were expected. Even our room was cozy and warm. There are many little, extra touches (including a small bottle of wine and biscuits) in the room. There is a beautiful garden area... not available too us do to cold weather and rain but we admired it. Breakfast was delightful. And on top of all this, great history and great location. Shelburne is a gem.

Room Tip: We were in the back upstairs, with big windows to look out towards the bay.

My husband and I traveled to the South Shore of Nova Scotia for a meeting and were looking for a B&B nearby. Cooper's Inn was an amazing 'find' for us. A great combination of history and modern comfort. We were greeted by one of the owners immediately on arrival, and there was a personal hand-written note welcoming us in our room, along with a small bottle of a very nice wine. The king-sized bed was extremely comfortable. One of the best parts of the experience was breakfast (the table was beautifully set including a vase with bright yellow and red tulips-and overlooked a garden resplendent with spring flowers) - juice, french-press coffee, warm muffins, fresh-fruit, eggs with chives (cut from the garden outside I think), bacon, french-toast with fruit compote, pancakes, toast, yogurt...wonderful! The service was efficient, friendly and helpful. We had the benefit of being there in the off-season (early May), so it was quiet, but that suited us perfectly. We haven't stopped raving about our stay at Cooper's Inn since we've left and are looking forward to the occasion when we can be back again.

Room Tip: We were able to chose any room in the Inn when we booked, and we particularly wanted a room with a K...

We arrived at the Cooper's Inn to July 19, 2012 to discover that it was re- inactment weekend. The first night we could watch a ship burn from our window and the second night we had a view of the beautiful fireworks from our window. There were soldiers marching by all weekend and many activities in which we could participate. We decided to drive up to Yarmouth on Saturday so we enjoyed a great few hours of finding treasures along that route. Breakfast was a delight and the host and hostess most accommodating. We did not take their suggestion a out dinner as we preferred something more casual. Some reviews said that you did not get a B&B feeling from this hotel but we did not feel that way. The garden out back was beautiful, parking was plentiful, room was very nice. Since we were covering most of Nova Scotia, we had big suitcases in the car and just put what we needed for the next day in a small bag. We had no idea that this would be such a good experience. We even got to watch a lobster basket race. I just read "Someone knows my name" for bookclub and could visualize the area since we had been there so recently. I would go really like to go back.

Room Tip: We stayed in George Gracie room. It is right on the street but we had no noise once the events for t...

Nice Inn operated as a B&B with nicely decorated and very clean rooms. Beds are good and rooms quiet. Nicely located on the river in the historical part of town. The breakfast is excellent and all incredients fresh and cooked on site. The owners are very friendly, kind and very helpful. I'd stay there again any time.

My husband and I stayed this month at The Cooper's Inn in Shelburne, Nova Scotia. We didn't realize we would actually be staying in a separate building from the Inn. The room, which I believe was called the Alan Redmond Room, is not at all practical for travelers. It is the tiniest room with two double beds and no place for luggage or space to stretch out. All surface space seemed to be taken up with the owner's items that were not needed. For example, there was this giant alarm clock that took up half the bedside table. Travelers need places for their wallet, keys, books, jewelry, snacks, drink, etc... My husband was shown the room by a person who never introduced themselves so we're not sure if they were an employee or the hostess. Since there was not sort of welcoming procedure, it was hard to tell who they were. Perhaps booking a room in the Inn would be a different experience but we would not recommend the room we had. We were forever bumping into one another and this B&B did not provide the comfort we were looking for after a long day on the road.

With historic properties such as ours, room sizes tend to vary and this is usually reflected in the rate. We believe our website describes our rooms accurately and indicates which rooms are in the main building and which are in our annex. There are also 360 degree views of each room available with each room description.
Referring to our check in procedure, all employees have been adivsed to introduce themselves to arriving guests.

Cooper's Inn was perfect in every way. The location, the room, the food, the owners, everything was great. You are able to park your car and walk everywhere. The location is so beautiful, right on the harbor. We will definitely visit Cooper's Inn again and would highly recommend it to anyone.
